Default Scents and Usage

Well In a few weeks or so here it will be about that time of the year again. By this I mean the RUT! It can obviously be the best time to be in the woods and is a good time to use some of those deer scents. I myself have some trouble with these. Like when, how, and where to use them so they are the most effective. So for some help, I was wandering what are some of the best scents and methods to use them. Ex.(favorite brands, kinds, etc.) Thanks.

I use alot of the Hunter's Specialties scents. But you can get different scents for anytime of the year.

The only one I have ever had a known/confirmed responce to was CodeBlue. I used a drag on the way in and maybe 10 min. after I settled in here he came nose to the ground right up the path I had walked in on and just about to the base of my ladder stand. He wasn't a mature deer but he wanted to be.

I spend a lot of time and effort making no smells and I just have a hell of a time making stink that came from a bottle and felling confident about it.

This is something that ive experimented with but really havent had any luck with as far as pulling a big buck in. I did have a doe come in and check out a doe urine that we were using that was air freighted from a place in pa. fresh and refrigerated. I think the main thing about those scents is using the right scent for the right time. But to know the right time youve got to do a lil work in the woods and also you have to know how to read sign. Also I think the scent that you purchase should be up to dateand should never be applied to your clothing, boots, etc. Always use a sterile guaze or pad and wear rubber gloves. Im hunting a totally new area after hunting on a piece for 4 yrs. But since scouting a lil here and there ive keyed in on their travel routes, beeding, etc. trying to figure the herd out. Ive been hunting for along time and just last yr had a grunt tube accually work for the first time, so its just a matter of time until I get the scents to work. My main goal is to stay as scent free as possible. Thats what I love about Deer hunting its always a learning experience. Id say experiment and have fun.

I've had some luck with the Knight & Hale line of scents. I used some Trophy Buck Lure(all season formula) on a scrape and the deer have worked more since then. Other than that I haven't experimented very much.
