Shoot for the lungs.(pink area, red is the heartwhich would also be a good hit) Preferably about 1/3 of the way up the deer.

Another small piece of advice, every time I have hit a deer with my bow, I watch their tail after I look to see if the arrow hit them. The tail will often times tell you what happened. An uninjured deer will usually raise their tail just as if you had spooked them and they ran off, a badly injured deer will usually not raise its tail and will usually hunch up after the shot. Every deer I have hit with my bow kept it's tail tucked.

On this show the other day they had it specialized to Bow placement. I recorded and I watch it everyday from now on. I 100% know I missed cuz I went out this afternoon and she was out there with the youngin. Which is now a spike. THey walked about 25 yards from me and I drew my bow. Right when I did they turned around and they walked to the Clover field we planted 4 them. I held it for about 2 mins and it back down. The doe stayed down the the clovers but the spike walked back up and was at the far end. Opposite end of me. I am glad to her back in there. She is the biggest one of the bunch. I bought some of the NAP SHockwave broadheads and I can groop them ALOT better than I can the Muzzy's so I am giving them up.

Trapper, I was just wondering how old you are? Take these tips from these guys as good advice. I'm only 18 and have only been hunting for 2 years, so anything you can take from the veterans absorb and remember it when your out there.

Good luck Hunting,and learn all you can,Watch videos,read Magazines,I subscribe to Whitetail hunter,deer and deerhunting,buckmasters,outdoorlife,field and stream.I own about 50 deer vids,wife wants to kill me.I'm 34 and have been in the woods with my pop since I was 8.You have alot to learn as we all do,But thats the fun of it.Keep your eyes and ears open.Learn Deer behavior,Body language,Travle routes,Bedding Areas.And Most Important.A TRUE SEASONED HUNTER WILL PASS UP A SHOT RATHER THEN WOUND A ANIMAL NO MATTER HOW BIG HE OR SHE MIGHT BE.Good luck Hunting and I hope to see some post soon.By the way I still miss although not often.missed 2 bucks last year and I still learn every trip out.

Practice, practice, practice. Do some 3D in the summer. Alot of it. Its cheep and alot of fun. If your not confident with your shooting or shot dont take it. I have lost one deer, and know I hit it. I will never take a shot that is questionable. Its not worth the animals life.

You sound like you want to do the right thing, so keep the ears open and do your best to be good hunter.

I dont know wat to say it kinda sounds like a miss but if you couldnt find an arrow????
I would double check the area good luck finding it
