Default Unbelievable

Last night I found out that one of my club members decides to set a stand about 60 yards from me. The worst part is he set up right in the middle of a bedding area, and he set the stand up after dark, when the temp is nice and cool and the deer are up and moving around after a het and humid day. He wasn't too happy when I told him he can't hunt there, anyway I told him to leave it there for now and move it Sunday(Saturday is opening day). Nothing like waiting to the last minute to set up. I have been telling him for weeks now to get the stand up early, now he knows why I've been telling him that!

Well at leat he didn't give me a hard time about it after I explained the situation to him. I also told him that when you bowhunt you can't do things half ass, you have to give it 110% or you won't suceed.

Sorry to hear that. I hunt public land so I know about competing with other hunters for prime spots. At least he was cordial about it, and it seems he took your advice as a lesson plan instead of a challenge - that's always good.

That is too bad. That bedding area may not be the same for a long time. I never set foot in their bedroom until the last few days of the season, when you have nothing to lose. Just the scent and commotion from him setting up a stand could really impact your spot as well. I hope you bag a big one anyway.

That happened to me last year. We have had a stand set up in the same location for years and have always harvested deer there. Well one day another hunter recieved permission to hunt the same 50 acres. Of course he knew where we got our deer and decided to place his stand 25 yards from ours trying to cut us off. After a few choice words with him over the next week he eventually got the idea and moved out. I just wonder whats going through peoples minds when they do crap like this. Sometimes I think they just wake up and dring a cup of instant a$$hole[:@].

Had a real class act from my club set up a huge roofing ladder with a stand welded to it about 60 yards from my stand. After I ripped it down thinking it was a tresspasser,I learn that it ws his. Many/Many choice words and phone calls ened with me being the bad guy and the stand being put back. Our club policy is that "portables" can be placed any where on the property but we each have our own gun stand areas. The good thing was that I nailed a huge 7pt on the opener of muzzle loader!

Hunting has become very competitive in terms of space issues and we must learn to deal...

I was thinking the same thing. I stay out of those areas unless I have to go in after a deer I've hit.

Did this guy know he was in a bedding area? Is he new to the sport? It seems to me he either didn't know any better or the guy was trying to get a step up on you. either way it sucks. Hopefully with some guidance in the future he'll be more respectful and use a bit of common scense.

For the record IMO there is nothing wrong with a stand 60 yards away if the two setups don't interfere with each other. Dead smack in the middle of a bedding area dosn't fit that description though.

That's just not right. For one it's disrespectful, but from the hunting situation, just plain dumb. You never want to disturb an active bedding area, because if you know that they are using it, you should be able to position stands far enough away to not disturb it, and still catch the bucks or does using it via travel routes. Just ruins the area. Sorry to hear it.

At least he did one thing right , he set his stand in the bedding area at night. Hopefully he didn't leave his scent everywhere.
Sorry to hear that but at least he learned a valuable lesson.
