LIKE BADSHOTBOB, I INTEND TO LEARN TO HUNT W/O THE AID OF BAIT- I JOINED 2 HUNTING CLUBS IN ALABAMA FOR THE 1ST TIME AND BAITING IS ILLEGAL. I ALSO WANT TO PRACTICE RESTRAINT ON TAKING SOMEWHAT SMALLER BUCKS. ONE OTHER GOAL IS TO BOW HUNT MORE OFTEN DURING GUN SEASON.

Sorry about the post before.
Different?
1) Leave my best stands alone until it's primetime. It will be hard not to go to them, but I have to stay away until the end of October.
2) Make sure every little branch has been cut from my shooting lanes.(already done) I learned the hard way last year.
3) Work even harder on scent control.

YOU MIGHT THINK I'M CRAZY....BUT THE THING I'M GOING TO DO DIFFERENT THIS YEAR IS NOT HUNT MY BEST SPOT. I HAVE A SPOT THAT CONSISTANTLY PUTS ME IN BOW RANGE OF AN 8 POINT BUCK EVERY YEAR. THE LAST 6 YEARS I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH GREAT SUCCESS. EVEN BETTER THAN THAT IS THAT I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH THE GREATEST HUNTING PARTNER WHO HELPS ME DRAG OUT MY DEER EVERY YEAR. THIS YEAR I AM GIVING HIM MY SPOT FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON. IT WILL BE MY HONOR AND A PLEASURE TO HELP HIM DRAG OUT HIS DEER.
BLESS YOU SAM, BEST OF LUCK THIS YEAR.

I'm a little behind my list this year. I pulled my stand down last year in total disgust. I swore I would never hunt out of that tree again. Well I still haven't put it in another spot yet. I've got a pretty good idea where, just got to do it. Season starts 10/15 so I better get moving. The other things I'm doing this year is, not over hunt 1 stand & try to be more aware of my scent.

I have private and semi-private land available to me this year. Last year I hunted this one parcel all season and had good success. This year I have two more areas open to me and one other friend. I plan to scout more, which I have been doing for the past few months. I plan to hunt one area in the mornings and one in the afternoon...just because they both offer different opportunities depending on time of day. I will try to stick to this routine for the season.
