After a weeks disruption due to Hurricane Charlie, we are now in the direct path of Frances. I guess it's time to batten down the hatches once again. This storm will present a much greater threat than the last one, and it is virtually certain my hunting camp will be completely destroyed. We have 10 mobile homes at our camp, plus a cook shed and other improvements. They are in Brevard county, the projected landfall for Frances. After it destroys my camp, I will be bracing for the storm in Orlando. This stuff is getting really old.
It sure makes it hard to focus on practicing with my bow and dreaming about the big one. Any other Floridian's in the path of Frances?

Hey Tealboy, I'm feeling the same way. I'm going out to my camp tomorrow and try to secure as much as I can. Charley did some damage that we just got fixed and now were at it again. I wish we could just run away and hide but that isn't a reality when you live in Florida is it?

Hey teal , I feel ya , as I live in the bullseye . You have failed to put your location on your profile , so I cant tell were you are in relation , but I belive this one going to efect all of Florida , and then the gulf states allso , Felow hunters keep us Florida bowmen and women , in your prayers . I will probably be out of comision for a couple weeks as it dont look good . Land fall is estamated 20 miles to the north of my residence , and shes got an 80 mile eye .

To you guys living in that area, I hope things turn out for the best. You have my prayers.
I can't imagine how tough it is as I've never been through one, but remember, camps and such can be replaced, life can't. Get the hell out of there and move to safety and worry about it when its over.
Good luck down there and make sure you give us all a shout when its over, let us know you're ok.

I hope you all fair well through the storm. I have a friend in Sarasota that just emailed me. He works on the fifth floor of an office building. He said he had a tornado pass between his office and the gulf this morning. Florida is really getting pounded this year.
As for hunting. I don't suggest hunting from a tree durring a hurricane but I'd suggest hunting the high ground.(just a little humor for you)

I really feel for you guys down there and also have you in our prayers here. I've been through several Hurricanes here in NC and no doubt it's very scary, dangerous and destructive but thank God no one has been injured in my family from them. We have our share of Hurricanes here too and are second to Florida when compared to the number thats hits the east coast. We have been very lucky so far this season however we aren't out of the strike possibilities here in NC yet with Frances because who knows where that storm is going once it gets close to land, those things seem to have a mind of their own. My dad's sister lives in Orlando and she said it was still in a mess around there from Charley and now this one is predicted to strike somewhere there too so i know you guys don't need another one. I agree all the material things can be replaced but life is so precious so get to a safe place and stay put until it's over if it does hit. Prayers are being lifted for anyone in the path of this hurricane no matter where it makes landfall. God Bless!

I'm in Orlando, camp is in Melbourne.
Residents and tourists in cars, trucks and campers clogged highways Thursday in the biggest evacuation ever ordered in Florida, fleeing inland as mighty Hurricane Frances threatened the state with its second battering in three weeks.
About 2.5 million residents were told to clear out ahead of what could be the most powerful storm to hit Florida in a decade. Other people in the 300-mile stretch covered by the hurricane warning rushed to fortify their homes with plywood and storm shutters, and buy water, gas and canned food.

Is it truly possible to wing shoot a Whitetail???
Seriously I wish all you guys in Florida the best and hope none of you suffer any major losses.
My good friend and rifle hunting compadre has a place on Pine Island and suffered some minor roof damage from charlie but this one looks alot worse. He might have to go down early this year for some repairs. He's planning a trip in October.

I was in the eye of George back 6 years ago. I tell you if FL wasn't in the way, MS would get hit HARD. This is the biggest recorded hurricane to hit the USA. Its twice the size of Andrew and Frances, and as big as Texas. GET OUT OF THERE!

We're praying for all of you down there in Florida.
I have a sister-in-law and family that live in Melbourne. They packed up and went 25 miles north to a daughters home which is supposed to be rated to withstand 160 mph winds. The sister-in-law is a nervous wreck.
Also, I have an uncle in Orlando who shipped his family up to Atlanta, GA. I guess they hadn't even finished cleaning up from Charley and they were told to evacuate anyway.
Be safe.......
