early season bucks?
anyone have any tips for hunting a big buck in septmber? do scents work that early? I got a pic of a 120 class buck last december and i found a huge set of tracks last weekend . I hunt public land here in ky and would like to get the most out of the start of the season. the deer are coming to a salt block on the edge of a thicket . there are no fields, all mountians how would you set up ? I have a stand over the salt block , but have never seen a buck out of it.

Right now...................FOOD SOURCES! They are still around the food sources, use some 2 drop supreme near a food source or plot, and try to do some far away scouting to see where a big buck might hang out before dark, and then hang a stand.

I just read Millers book on rublines and I would try and find one. Start at the food source and look for a rub line heading to the bedding area. I located a few last winter and yesterday I have found one that is freshened up. I will be setting on that line opening day.

Dont even worry about that salt lick. the chances a mature buck will come to that during shooting hours is next to none. find rublines that lead from food sources to bedding areas. get on those trails. the bucks wont hit the fields until dark. scents wont work very well early on. you could try some regular doe urine
