I am trying to go to the one pin method of shooting. I am middle of bullseye at 15 and 20 yds, and low bullseye at 25 yds. I guess my question is, is it better to hit a little low on the deer at longer distances or a little higher on shorter distances if you understand what I am saying. 25 yds is about as long a shot as I will ever take on a hunt.

Kybuck I am shooting just one pin now also. I set it at 20 yards. Then for 30 yards I am at the top of the deers back. Then for 40 I am at the top of the ears. This seems to be the best way for me. Every hit seems to be in the boiler room for me. I get a kick out of shooting this way. Where do you hunt in danville? My grandmother lives there.
Good luck

How fast is your arrow traveling?
Mine is traveling at 265 fps and I sight in my top pin at 25 yards. At 20 yards I am two inches high and at 30 yards I am 2 inches low. My next one is sighted in at 40 yards.

if you are gonna use just 1 pin and 25 yards will be your max. then find you a happy medium for that one pin . let's say instead of setting it at 15 yards set it at maybe 18 yards and see how it groups at 15, 20 , 25 . give it a try . good luck

You have it figured out at 10 and 15....you can aim right on. But at 25 yards you need to figure out how high you have to aim when taking a 25 yard shot. Everybody's rig is differant! If you're going to shoot to 30, you need to practice and learn how high to aim when taking a 30 yard shot. After 30 yard one pin gets alittle more difficult.

If your a tree stand hunter check into pendelum sights. I have used a couple different ones and found that the Savage brand is wisper quiet, deadly accurate and you don't need to lock the pendelum for hunting on the ground. I shoot in at 25 yrds on the ground and it's right on in the tree, won't use any other sight! check ebay for cheaper than dealer prices. good luck!

Pendulum sights can be great for one pin shooters... especially if you climb. I'd go the way of Twisted if you shoot a fixed pin sight, but make sure you practive from an elevation that mirrors you're most common hunting height. Impact is going to be higher in most cases when shooting from an elevated platform. I find it's better to hit a bit low in most hunting situations.

Thx for the feedback. Superrman77 I do most of my hunting down towards the forkland area, some in mitchellsburg, and some in Casey Co. I went and scouted a new farm tonight and I think I hit the mother load. I saw 3 12's, 3 10's, a 8, and a messed up 7, big nice 5 on 1 side and a small little fork on the other. Probably saw 30 deer in this one field. Needless to say I am more excited to hunt now than ever, Sept 4 won't get here soon enough

If I were to shoot just 1 pin, I would sight in my 15 yd pin. From there I would move back from the target until I was hitting 4 inches low. At that distance I would place my pin. When I shot at deer or pigs, I would always shoot at the heart.
Hope this makes since to you. Keep it simple! And good luck! Danny
