Has anyone ever heard of the limb(s) of a compound bow snapping while drawing the string back? A buddy of mine told me a story about a split limb compund bow breaking and seriuosly injuring the person shooting it. I understand that a shooter must inspect his bow everytime he shoots it. Does anyone know from experience?

I would be interested in hearing if any body knows anything about this. I shoot a split limb myself.

I heard te same thing from someone at the pro shop I go to, told me to check the limbs before I shoot I have split loms as well.

I have never had a split limb break on me, been shooting them for a long time. I had a Mathews Q2XL that blew a limb at full draw. It made a loud pop and my buddy told me to let down slowly. Very scary! The bottom limb had started to seperate. If I had let the string go, my face would have been toast.

I can't say I had a split limb snap, had a pair of Hoyt's that wore them, but I never abused them either. I did have a limb blow apart on a solid limb bow I had back in 1996. I won't mention the brand since that didn't have much to do with it. I shot that particular bow on the 3D circut and pushed the arrow weight low to milk as much fps as I could get. The upper limb gave up about 3/4 of the way through the season. I was at full draw and heard a strange creaking sound. I was using a Stan release and just came off my anchor to let the bow down when the limb went. It was over in a split second. My only injury was a cut along the right cheek, caused by the nock sets. The bow went all over the place... upper limb in two... most parts out front about 10 yards... string and cables a mess, the arrow rest bent down and a Easton ACC broken on the ground. Not a good experience to say the least, but it could have been worse. I imagine that pushing a split limb bow for any time frame could end with similar results. I was shooting mine slightly below 5 grains per pound so there is noone to blame but me.

I bought and American archery panther gt in 1986 and shot it for about 1 year. Always used 2219 arrows and 125g heads. Anyway a friend and I were shooting one day and I got the bow at about 3/4 draw and WHAM!!!
The upper limb exploded and it split the wood riser about half way down. I had a few splinters in my arm and face but nothing as serious as it could have been. They gave me a brand new bow and I still have that one today. I havn't used it in years but it did get about 10 years without a problem. The bow was never dry fired or abused, you just never know when it might happen. Bows are built by people and we aren't perfect.

ooow! this makes me a bit worried about the whole splt limb idea, I own a Reflex cam 1/2
slpit limb. My friend once told me about his experience when his limb busted at full draw. The limb snaped and it hit him in his forearm leave a massive bruise and welt. I gues it nearly broke his arm. That;s not good.[]
