Default Waht do u guys think? (treestands)

I have two perment ladder stands on my 10 acres of woods. Do u think i should get a hanging stand and have the added mobility or stick with these two stands? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think that with proper scouting and playing the wind that a mobile stand probably wouldn't be that beneficial. But if you didn't see many deer beginning, you could give it a shot. just my .02$

I think purchasing a lock on type stand would be a very good idea. From year to year you never know what may happen in your woods to change a deer's pattern. A tree may blow over a trail leading to your permanent stand causing the deer to change corse, pushing them just outside your effective range. Food sources may become non existent where they once were, water sources may dry up, bedding areas may change. You never know. Having that extra mobility would give you the upper hand in this situation.

I would pick up a lockon it would make it easier to move with the deer. A nice tree climber would also be a good choice.

Two years ago I had a hot stand. I was seeing bucks and does everyday I hunted there. Went back there last year and it was dead. I wasted the whole year simply because I didn't do my homework by scouting the woods better and place the stand where I knew they were traveling.

Definitely get a stand that is portable. You will want to be able to move where the deer are and you can't do that with a permanent stand. Just think of this....you're sitting in one of your permanent stands on opening morning and you see all the deer in the area using a trail 70 yards from your location. Other than using a ground blind, you're stuck. You want the mobility to move around on your hunting grounds. Two years ago I was hunting in my climber in my favorite spot. I didn't do any pre-season scouting because I know the area like the back of my hand. But for some reason, the deer were detouring around my stand site. Around lunch time I got down and did a little snooping. Here a big tree had fallen down right across the trail and this forced the deer around me. I moved my stand for the evening hunt and took a nice buck. If I hadn't been able to move my stand, I'd be cursing the hunting gods today.

lock ons are nice and they will give you some mobility, If you really want mobility I'd suggest a good climber. You'll have a lot more freedom and setting up won't be nearly as time consuming if you decide to change locations.

Either way you can never have enough stands

I agree with Adams, you have got to be mobile and in my mind that means a climber. Lock ons are good but take too long to set up.
