RE: Average travel distance of deer you have shot
I think most bowhunter "average" is quite a bit more than whats everyone has been stateing. I'll bet its closer to 150 or maybe 200 yards. I've shot several deer in the heart and have gone 75 to 100 yards, double lunged 6 or 7 and they gone from 30 to 200 yards. Double lung I'd say my average is 75 yards. It takes the blink of an eye after the shot for a lethally hit deer to go 75 yards. Take out a single lung and you may go 1/4 mile (had it happen several times.)
One other thing I'd like to mention.....4 of the last five deer I've shot with Wasp Jackhammer 100 3 blade mechanicals, those 4 went 25 to 60 yards with unbelievable blood trails! The 12 to 15 deer I've shot before that with Muzzy 100 or Thunderhead 100's and I'd say the average was 175 to 200 yards. Shot placement is so critical....or it can easily be 500 to 1000 yards! Good Luck! |
