I have have heard people say you should not smoke while your in a treestand. I have also heard of people smoking while they shot a deer. Does it really matter if you do? Personally, I chew coppenhagen snuff, anyone think thats a bad idea while bow hunting? Let me know what ya think.

I can not believe someone would dream of smoking in the woods. Smokers cant smell themselves, but I can smell them a mile off and a deers nose is better than mine. I go through a painstaking process to stay sent free. I never take my clothes indoors, get dressed outside etc. It has made a big difference in my hunting since doing so.

I can honostly say that I have never seen a deer on or off stand while I had a cigarette lit. I have had deer approach within 5 minutes of putting one out, but never with one lit up. (my goal this year is to quit by Oct 1st!!!)

One guy that used to hunt with us almost always had a cigar in his mouth, he saw lots of deer but he moved around alot.
My brother-in-law generally had a pinch of Copenhagen in and he has gotten his fair share of deer over the years.
I take some Red Man with me from time to time during rifle season but never in bow season.

Tobacco, heck yes the more you smoke or chew the better. I also recommend lots and lots of cologne, I prefer Old Spice myself. And if I can I find a big pile of dog doo and step in it just before walking to my hunting spot.
Seriously, any scent you bring into the woods that isn't normally there will effect deers natural behavior and its not going to be for the better 99% of the time.

Hey TurkeyHunter, I can't say I never seen deer in the woods when I smoked but I've been a exsmoker for six years and I can't tell you how clueless I was on the smell of tobacco I carried, or how much more game I see now.
