Default 100's of Ants in my stealthcam.

I checked my stealthcam this weekend and when I opened it there were thousands of ants and larva in it. It still seems to be working fine but I am not quite sure if they could do any damage. Anyone else had this problem and if so how did you fix it. Oh yeah, and I wasted a whole roll of film on the sun. I accidently pointed it directly west just like it says not to. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I'd clean it out real good and try another tree. Unless you got something on it the ants like I would think you just chose a tree the ants frequent. So, Pick another tree that dosen't face the sun and get set up there.

Good Luck!

I almost forgot, Welcone to the board

Welcome to the board. I had the same problem with my Cuddeback. It was full of them little things. No problems with it but I did move to a different tree. Everything is good now. I just tapped it until all (or at least most) of the ants were gone.

Bummer about the roll of film.[] That is why I went digital. Good luck.

I have not had that problem yet. I guess the deer cocane lures them all away.

As suggested I would just clean it off and put it on another tree. I doubt they could do any real damage during a short period of time.

I had that problem in my deercam, it blew through most of a roll of film, I figured it was the ants on the motion sensor. I thought I had them all out til I left it on the family room coffee table over night then moved it in the AM, they were everywhere again.

I sprayed ant killer in making sure to not hit the circuit board and I removed the camera.

Thats funny. Be glad they didn't set off the camera. You'd end up with a roll full of trophy ants!

I have had that problem many times. Now I add gasket material to seal the doors better, and some of the cameras i have taped the openings. If they do get in at a certain location move the camera.

I can say with my camtrakker, out of the hundreds of trees I've had mine on, the only time I've had the ants were when I had it on a pine( 2 times). This is my 2 cents, but I believe this is the common occurance for this particular situation.

You can use Vasoline. Smear it along the outside rim and the crawlies can't get through without sticking.
