I'd rather take a 5 month old fawn any day of the week when it comes down to good eats :D

P.S. I love veal too :D

I've had one of my own that I hit with my s-10 pickup in 1990 on my way back from setting my treestand in mid Sept. It dove under the truck and smacked its head on my bumper. Died instantly with NO MEAT DAMAGE.
I tried calling the State Police but couldn't get them to respon...so I just gutted it and trew it on the roof in a tarp and the night air was actually pretty cool that night. So with the ride home at 70+mph it was cooled quickly. Best deer I have ever eaten, tenderness wise...and maybe the best tasting to boot. It was actually quite light in color (the meat that is)

One good thing about shooting a fawn is that no dragging is required. You can just tuck it in your game pack with the pheasants and squirrles! :D

I haven't ever shot one with spots !! But those young 6 mnth (60+/- lbs)ones do make for some great eatin' !!

I saw menu that a fellow chef who visited Singapore brought back. The highest price entree was Venison Embryo in Placenta sack. He didn't try it but a buddy did and said it was excellent.

He said they cut a hole in the placenta and removed the fetus, seasoned and seared and place back in the placenta and added an aromatic broth and tied a knot where they cut to re-seal it and poached it from there. he said it came to the table and you could see the little deer inside a big balooned out transparent placenta and the waiter popped it at the table and the smell wafted through the dining room.

That kind of fawn?:D:D

I shot a deer just out of spots last September, by far the best eating deer I have ever tasted. The meat is white, tender and nothing like venison. I will take another given the chance this September in that age group. I however will try to exclude any button bucks if possible, maybe.

I really no longer eat deer, but when I did you couldn't beat a bambi cut into steaks. I still shoot them from time to time and always take the bambi out of the herd. They are lighter (30 - 40 #s) a lot easier to deal with. I will make it into jerky and give it away to friends. There are a few spots that I won't shoot anything until late in the season if it's not huge. Other spots I know I won't see anything huge so then I will shoot a bambi no matter what time in the season it is.
