Lately I have been shooting tighter groups at 20 yards than I am shooting at 10?? Any ideas?

Only thing I can figure is that you're taking the 10 yard shot less seriously than the 20. If you're overly confident that you'll hit the bull at 10, you may be pulling the shots a touch. At 20, you may feel less sure of a bull, so you concentrate harder.

Only thing I can figger.

I have heard of this happening. Your arrow may be correcting itself at the 20 yard distance. Check your clearance of your arrow rest and fletchings. Also, check the paper tuning of your arrow flight at 5-10 yards and compare it to the 20 yard shot. Hope this helps.

Ausie-Guy I am shooting the 10 first and yes I do have a few cold ones while shooting, but if I start at the 10 and do better on the 20 does that mean I should have a few before I shoot the 10?LOL

bobco I will try the paper and see.

a friend of mine was dead on at 10 built his confedence up and moved to the 20 now he is dead on at the 20 but flat out hitting the target at 10

Guess you should have a couple more before you start lol

but the paper tune will probably tell you the true story

if it was me then I would not see the target at any distance after "a" cold one

I am betting that BobCo is right. If you have some rest clearance problems and arrow is "kicking out" when the vanes hit this might explain it. It takes a few yards for the vanes to exert enough force to stabilize the arrow. My 2 cents, anyway.

Try shooting the 20 first and see how that effects your groups ,if it don't then check your paper tune . I try to start at different yardages each time just to get used to them because there is no warm-up when hunting . I find usually the longer I shoot the better I do. That could also be your case if you always start on the ten .

Your arrow is probably 'fishtailing' when it fist leaves your string. You can have someone stand behind you and watch your arrow flight and they can tell. I paper tuned my bow by hanging the paper from my kids swingset chains and shooting thru it.
