Default Bear Broadheads

I plan on bowhunting for black bear for the first time this year and I am shooting a PSE Beast 65 lb draw wieght with 6075 carbon arrows and I was wondering if my 3-blade 100 grain muzzy arrows will do the job or if I should get some of those chisel tipped arrows or something else. Thanks for any help.

Whatever you use for whitetails will work just fine. Personally I shoot 2315s w/ 125 thunderheads. They seem to pass thru just as well on bears as they do on deer. Like all big game animals you must avoid the shoulder. Any shot through the rib area into the vitals will work out great with your setup.

Sounds like a good combo to me , While I have not shot bears , I have shot wild boars with the broadhead you mention and it worked great .

Kansaswiderack is right. Any setup for whitetail is adequate for black bears and your Muzzy will be more than proficient. A black bears hide is actually thinner than that of a whitetail although the hairs can be thicker. Like he said, avoid the shoulder bone and make a good placement and your setup will be fine. I took my 98 Quebec black bear with a 3 blade 100 gr Muzzy on the tip of a Beman ICS340 arrow out of a Hoyt Tenacity II....the shot passed the length of the bear and shattered on a rock behind him. We recovered him a mere 50 yards from the shot.

Blazing-were and when are you going? I am leaving 5/28/04 for northern Manitoba. We will be hunting near Cranberry Portage. Last year I saw a lot of bears but nothing very big during daylight hours. I did shoot one the last evening in camp but it wasn't very big. I hope to be a little luckier this year. Good luck with your hunt.

Thanks guys. Kansas, I am hunting in the northern half of minnesota, near park rapids. It is in a state forest and varies from conifer stands to hardwoods and swamps. I will be headed there to bait in August and will begin hunting in September.
