RE: Gut shot it!!! Now what?????
Well I got home yesterday and grabbed a neighbors chicken to help me track him down. Well I'll tell you what, that is one smart bird, within thirty yards of the end of the vine that chicken started pecking fresh seeds, he had jumped him up out of a pile of leaves, within twenty feet there were seeds and juice every where. Found him piled up next to an empty catsup bottle. Turned out the broadhead had nicked several major organs, but had not ruptured them until the chicken had jumped him. I had to eliminate the chicken to keep him from destroying the cape. The taxidermist said he should make a fine mount and after the 6 year drting period I should get him measured by P&Y for the books. After leaving the taxidermist I stopped at the store and bought myself a big bottle of V-8 to celebrate. Had chicken for supper.

Man you're lucky. Not trying to be a pain in the butt you understand..... BUT .... I thought the chicken was a protected bird in Virginia. How can you justify breaking the law buy killing the chicken just to recover a wounded tomatoe? The chicken was only doing what comes naturally to him, "pecking and scratching". I hope the DNR reads this thread and pays you a visit....... POACHER!<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>
Incidently.... here is how it's suppose to be done. Notice the exit wound left by the mechanical on this Roma Plum variety. You'll also note the relaxed full displayed tongue that insures it was a swift painless end. ![]() Edited by - davidmil on 02/21/2002 11:26:45 |
RE: Gut shot it!!! Now what?????
David this chicken had to be dealt with, in the county I hunt in you are allowed to take a chicken if he is actively attacking a tomatoe! As far as your shot placement photo I have to question your ethics, granted that was a perfect brain shot, but a mere 1/4 inch either way and we would have a deaf tomatoe loose in the wilds. Head shots are a BIG no no! David I hope this was an accidental shot and not something you tryed to do and got lucky.

I clipped an unseen twig. I was aiming for the vine trying to cut him out of the rest of the bunch. I was using Miracle Whip and whole wheat as scent attractants.

RE: Gut shot it!!! Now what?????
Cool.... I will post up how to nock and vane a weed whacker once I figure it out. Right now the accuracy stinks! I wiped out 2 bushes and came close to skinning my wifes cat alive. Another issue is holding the bow level long enough to put the pins on them, I was thinking about rigging up a tripod for my bow, but realised that would be unethical.

Man, I am SCARED just lookin at those pics. Why would you want to hunt a creature that vicious. I would rather hunt a grizzly bear with a sling shot.

RE: Gut shot it!!! Now what?????
You Easterners have all the luck. We don't have the early `mato season out west like you do. Gotta wait till July...and then it is just a one fruit limit on a 3 pounder or better. Tough hunting out here!
Are there some guide services back east that are affordable? I would ask Big John to take me but I heard through the vine that all his hunts are high fence enclosed on domestic 'matoes over Miracle Gro bait piles. Not very sporting... The Mouse |
RE: Gut shot it!!! Now what?????
Davidmil , I agree with your berating Taz on the chicken episode ,but I must point out you forgot to tag your tomatoe ,obviously a oversight on a ethical person such as yourself .
