BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are very dangerous creatures. If anyone remembers that movie from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, they modeled the "KILLER RABBIT" after a jackelope!

They are very elusive, but seem the be in rut around easter!
Watch out when you go egg hunting, they are very territorial.

You HAVE been warned!

Once you get your 'lope, make sure to clean and hang it right away, they get to stinking pretty fast. I've eaten jackalopes from several states. The ones in NW Minn, and N. Dakota seem to have the best flavor, probably from all the sugar beats they eat. The tenderloins and backstraps are great.

Most of the Jackalopes you see mounted a fakes. It is rare for someone to actually kill one. Real jackalopes are usually only nubb bucks. They don't have antlers like deer. They have horns made of hair more like a cow. They are real. There was a guy here in Texas that shot an actual jackolope a few years ago. It was on every news show around. I forget what the odds are that a jackrabbit will grow horns, but it does happen from time to time. Jackrabbits are actually hares not rabbits. Good luck if you go after one. It may take a few years.

RE: NEEDED INFO ON JACKALOPES

Last year they just past new rules and regulations on taking lopes, seems like the state is putting a season limit on them and requiring a special tag for them. I just lost my intrest am not even sure if I'm going to hunt them since they put an antler resriction on them here. I forgot to cut the esophagus out quikly last year and they turned out chewey. Just make sure you don't wound one during the rut, they can be pretty mean little creatures. ;) Bobby

In IL the season is open all year long for either sex.
If you can find one, you can take it.

Hint:
Although it is legal to bait them, it is not recommended as you run the risk of attracting more then one at a time.
A death sentence for sure, unless you just happen to be packing your trusty "Holy Hand Grenade".
It's better to spot-and-stalk an individual and then call them into range with a soft "clip-clop, clip-clop" on your coconuts.
