Default RE: Alternative to traditional fletching. StarrFlight FOB's.

I had emailed him awhile back and asked for some to try. Image my surprize when today in the mail box was a package with two shooters and one tester for clearance of the rest. So i tested and determined that they would clear everything.

Screwed on a four bladed muzzy and let it rip. Arrow flight is good and they are accurate. Ran out of daylite. tomorrow I will also test at a longer range and compare to field tips and other things. Looks like a very workable soluation to broadhead tuning.

I am sure they will work. Anything that produces drag at the rear end of the arrow wil work. Thing is, i dont like drop-away rest that much. They move.
Still i feel i should not argue unless i tried them.

Tell me: What would they do on shoot-troughs ? Do they heve to come apart from the arrow? Will they stick inside?

I also like to hear what will happend if you have to shoot trough narrow holes between branches?
Do they stay strait into the air direct after launch?

I'll keep a eye on this product.
Thanks for bringing it to the attention tho.

I can't wait for somebody to bring some of those things to a 3D shoot. People have been griping at me for shooting up nocks for years and those things are just too good a target to pass up. Even if someone stuck one of those in the target's butt, I'd shoot at it just out of pure meaness.

Buy 'em by the thousand pack and come on![8D]

I also received a sample pack to try out. I shot the small FOB several times. Arrow flight with the FOB was very good - the FOB arrow consistantly grouped with my vane fletched arrows out to 30 yards. I didn't shoot beyond that. However, I quickly determined this was not the product for me. (I'm strictly a bowhunter.) First, the FOBs are noisy in flight. I wished I still had some arrows fletched with feathers to compare with, because it seemed like the FOBs were noiser than feathers. Definely more noisy than my Flex Fletch vanes. Second, and in my opinion the more serious issue, was the FOB's contact with my chin when at full draw. While the contact wasn't much and it didn't seem to affect my shooting, this is an "oh crap" waiting to happen in a hunting situation when you have large, zip-up collars or some sort of face mask. I didn't even shoot the large FOB because it pushed heavily against my face at full draw. One final observation is that the FOB would not be ideal for shooting through mesh out of a ground blind. I do have to commend the owner of Starrflight for getting out samples and soliciting input. It will make for a better product. In this case, if there would be a way to move the FOB's front on the arrow an inch or so, the FOB's would be a viable alternative to fletching.

If these things work I wont have to buy a fletcher, they sure look odd when there on a
arrow though. I shoot a trophy taker shakey hunter, they should work with this rest
plus I shoot a 1 inch dia head so I could get away with the 1 inch fob. I will be watching this post closley for your test results.

Todd
Have you tested for speed? I use feathers right now and there lighter then vanes. Seeing the fob stablizes faster would the speed lost be miniamal>
