Default RE: Alternative to traditional fletching. StarrFlight FOB's.

I also received a sample pack to try out. I shot the small FOB several times. Arrow flight with the FOB was very good - the FOB arrow consistantly grouped with my vane fletched arrows out to 30 yards. I didn't shoot beyond that. However, I quickly determined this was not the product for me. (I'm strictly a bowhunter.) First, the FOBs are noisy in flight. I wished I still had some arrows fletched with feathers to compare with, because it seemed like the FOBs were noiser than feathers. Definely more noisy than my Flex Fletch vanes. Second, and in my opinion the more serious issue, was the FOB's contact with my chin when at full draw. While the contact wasn't much and it didn't seem to affect my shooting, this is an "oh crap" waiting to happen in a hunting situation when you have large, zip-up collars or some sort of face mask. I didn't even shoot the large FOB because it pushed heavily against my face at full draw. One final observation is that the FOB would not be ideal for shooting through mesh out of a ground blind. I do have to commend the owner of Starrflight for getting out samples and soliciting input. It will make for a better product. In this case, if there would be a way to move the FOB's front on the arrow an inch or so, the FOB's would be a viable alternative to fletching.
