I also highly doubt that the material is as strong as the "plastics" used in and on space vehicles and instruments
C903 - When you tested this rest what did you think about it??

Do you believe that the material and the fabrication of the rest is of the same substance, composition, and quality as what is used in space vehicles and designed for use in space?

I wouldn't care if I found out it was actually made from compressed racoon crap, it is the best rest I have ever used!! Seriously, I remember when I got my first one I was a little worried about it's appearance and the fact it was plastic. I have shot one on my last 2 bows and have one sitting here to go on my new Outback as soon as it gets here. I love this rest. And don't worry it is very durable. I have been rough on mine and have had it out in every typw of weather imaginable and it has never failed me. Just give it a chance and I bet you will love it.

No I don't - But it might be close

With all you have to say about it I figured you had tested it and put it through its paces. It would seem foolish to put it down unless you tested it, and experienced some problems first hand.

So what did you find out??

Delrin is a trademark name.

Delrin (Acetal): "Moderate strength; relatively low cost; easy to machine; excellent for general applications where a plastic is desired."

Acetal Delrin® Acetron®: "It is easier to machine than nylon and shows greater stability and moisture resistance than nylon, but is not as wear resistant."

Acetals: " Acetals (DELRIN) suffer from outgassing (odor) problems at elevated temperatures, and are brittle at low temperatures.[/i]

Acetal Limitations: "Acetals (DELRIN) are attacked by ultraviolet radiation, becoming brittle with long term exposure to sun light……."[/i].

All I am saying, is that I personally will not pay $100.00 for a critical component that is made of plastic.

PS: Performance was not the complaint. The fact that the material is plastic was the complaint. Apparently, for those that like "drop-aways," the rest performs well. The question is: How durable will the "plastic" remain and what is the life expectancy....for $100.00?

Delrin® (Polyoxymethylene)

Delrin is a rugged polymer that serves as an excellent choice for long-term mechanical stability for products such as fittings and threaded adapters.
Product: DELRIN®

Manufacturer: DuPont

Material Characteristics: DELRIN is a crystalline plastic which offers excellent balance of properties that bridge the gap between metals and plastics. Delrin possesses high tensile strength, creep resistance and toughness. It also exhibits low moisture absorption. It is chemically resistant to hydrocarbons, solvents and neutral chemicals. These properties along with its fatigue endurance make Delrin ideal for many industrial applications.

DELRIN offers the following qualities:

Good dimensional stability
Low moisture absorption
Excelent Machineability
High Fatigue endurance
High strength and stiffness properties
Superior impact and creep resistance
Chemical resistance to fuels and solvents
Natural grade is FDA, NSF and USDA compliant
Good wear and abrasion properties

Default RE: Disappointed with my Zero Effect!

Gents, The Zero Effect has gone through changes, most of them for the better, but recently Muzzy has cheapened out on this product in my humble opinion. It should NO LONGER be a $100 rest! BUT, the Plastic is NOT the problem!!

Many of the parts that were previously nicely machined and a reason for the high price, have been replaced by cheap stampings. Even the quality of the anodizing appears lower to me on the current production runs.

While the Zero Effect previously had a nicely and accurately machined Axle bold made from bar stock Stainless, the ones that I have used recently have had a much lower grade of axle bolt that is swedged and have had very poorly cut (rolled) threads. We have both measured and taken photo-micrographs of these parts and are personally dissapointed by Muzzy's choice to cheapen out on the construction. I thought about sending copies of the micrographs to Muzzy, but to what end? They know that they are putting out a different grade of part. Maybe this should be a $50 rest, as it seems to no longer be built like a $100 one.

While I have been a huge fan of the Zero Effect for several years, and have many bows with Zero Effects, I have switched to the Trophy Taker Shaky Hunter with Micro Adjustments on my latest bows. The Tropy Taker is a fine rest and one that the manufacturer doesn't seemed to have cheapened out on.

I had always thought that Muzzy took pride in their quality, but with respect to the Zero Effect, I no longer feel that way. Be your own judge, but don't worry about the plastic.
