I started bowhunting (rabbits and other small game) when I was about 10 or so. I'll be 56 this year and the only hunting seasons I missed here were in the 60 when I was in the Nam.
It is the best pursuit in sporting I could have gotten myself into as far as I can see. I hope to have many more years of bow hunting, God willing.

Started shooting my dads old recurve when I was 12 and really got into the sport when I was 16. I am now 30 and can say this is my favorite passtime. 17 years and it is only getting better!!!!! Can't wait to teach my 2 boys, 3yrs and itching to hunt with dad and 8 weeks old already watching daddys favorite hunting videos with him!! Can't get much better than that!!!

Boy, do I ever feel like a young un here, only been bowhunting for about 5 years. I did shoot some 3D league for 1 year about 7 years ago tho. I would have to say that other than dirt track racing, this is the best sport around.

RE: How Many Years

This was a good topic. for all of us who have been at this for over 30 years think about what changes we have seen,
Traditional archery's re-emergence
arrow technology, wood-alluminum, fiberglass-graphflex, carbon-carbon/alluminum
compounds - from the first Allen's, 4 wheels (Citation, Arrowstars), 2 -wheels with brackets, without brackets, split limbs (Quadroflex ring any bells?), 1-wheel-(Dynabow)
roller guards (Bear & Golden Eagle had them years ago), replaceable broadhead cartridges (Razorback 4 &5 had them 20 years ago). Just some things from over the years.
We have been lucky to see all of these changes,
and for you guys who say "makes us feel old, well, we are old!

I started Bowhunting in 1956-took my 1st bigame in 1958 (a Whitetail).
My math says starting my 48th year-that should make some of you feel younger. Headed on a Buffalo bowhunt in 2 weeks. This IS a great sport & has given me much to remember over the years....
