Default Opinions Please

As most of you know I have lot of hogs on my lease and they are pushing the deer off.

We are looking for lights to put at the feeders so we can do some serious hog hunting.

I have looked into solar garden lights but they only have a single LED in them and are not very bright.

I have seen other lights that come on at dusk and off at dawn but they want an arm,leg and first born for them.

I found this solar security light and want your opinion on them if they would make a good feeder light.
I will probably get some red PlexiGlass to replace the clear lens.

From what they say this light will light up 3400 sq ft

It has a 20 watt halogen globe, you can also set the time that the light stays on once it has been triggered 1 minute,5 minutes,10 minutes.

The sensor is sposed to pick up movement from as far as 60 feet, I have a pine tree that is 15 yards from my feeder that I can mount this light in.

So What ya'll think?

It looks like a pretty good investment for knocking down some of those dang hogs! I would say that you may want to put it out a good while before you planning on killing them! I am not familar with hogs, but I am pretty sure that a big light flashing on at night might be even to spook the crap out of them!

Jason.

I dont care if it gives them a heart attack as long as we can get rid of them.

The idea of the red lense is that will not scare the hogs off where a bright white will.

We used to use a red lens on the spot light for hunting them and they where never bothered with the red but as soon as you took the red lens off they would scarper real quick.

Haha,

So, what is going to be your weapon of choice, a rifle or a couple sticks of dynomite?

I know that I have used red lens covers to catch worms at night and it works, so I can see how the red will work on the hogs!

I was thinking about putting in some land mines but with my luck I would forget where I put them and blow myself up

The lease is strictly bow only.

Ausie, Yes, from what my buddies say the red light works great. I think they can't see red or something like that. Let me know if you need an extra bow! Also, one of my friends has some traps if your interested. He has been trapping some for another friend who has the same problem. The hogs have taken over his property and the deer are hard to find. He has a game cam and said he gets 22 pics of hogs and maybe 2 of deer. He said one picture he counted about 80 hogs in it. He put 5 hogs on his land about 4 years ago and now is getting overran. There was an article in the paper last week about the hog problem and it said they were like fireants and starting to look like it could develop into a big problem.

Have Bow/Will Travel
Have you tried lazers or Mag stablizers on your bows? I'd think on a clear night with a moon, a laser site would be "killer" dialed in for a 15 yard shot. Providing of course its legal.[&:]

Nub.
Laser sights are illegal down here[:@]

We are putting in atleast 3 more stands and feeders and if my experiement works with this light we will put them at all the feeders and you never know we might even open the place up for other hog hunters.

The light thing should work. I have read up on hog hunting and a lot of guided hunts use lights like the one you are planning on buying. A lot of nighttime hunting, is what they say they do with lights is what they told me when i called them asking about a hunt.

Sounds to me Ausie is you've got a chance to make a little cash on the side here as well as getting rid of most of these hogg's.
