What's In A Name?

Just curious......some of you people have some odd user names! I just wondered if anyone was willing to share what his/her board name meant or how they came by it. Mine was originally given to me by a fishing friend who calls me Johnny Rainbow, since I'm just as passionate about Steelhead/Rainbow Trout fishing as I am about Bowhunting Whitetails. I just shortened it to J-Bow. Now I can use it to cover both of my favorite outdoor pursuits.

Just Wondering!
John:)

RE: What's In A Name?

I used several handles in the past. Started out as LittleJohn on bowsite, then that name got stolen by someone else. Tree, Sherwood - Those were nicknames I had as a teenager (Tall as a tree. Then tall as a forest. Since I shot bows-n-arrows, it was obviously Sherwood forest ;)) and tried to use, but they were both taken or stolen.

So, when I got tired of having my handle hijacked, I just start using my name and initial.

I was born under the sign of the archer so it just made sense. Unfortunately the word was already taken so I added the year of my birth.

Buck Magnet 01-10-2004 09:58 AM

RE: What's In A Name?

I used Buck Magnet because it was a nickname that my best-friend and I came up with for my dad. Whenever he talks of hunting, we like to poke fun at him about how he use to "hunt in -10 degree weather, 4 feet of snow, and winds at 80 mph, and still kill deer", so, I just picked it as my name and I have stuck with it ever since :D

CamoHunter 01-10-2004 10:09 AM

RE: What's In A Name?

My user name kinda has two meanings by accident. When I started thinking about a name I tried to think of something that would "fit me".
Since I bow hunt and turkey hunt most of all, I spend a lot of time in camo clothes so... CamoHunter.
Also I also saw CamoHunter arrows and thought that kind of fit also.:D
Good question, it's interesting to hear the reasons behind peoples names.

Belle Island 01-10-2004 10:15 AM

RE: What's In A Name?

My handle is the name of the deer camp that I'm in with my Dad, Nephew and Brother in law. Belle Island is an 5,000 acre island in the Mississippi River located around Greenville, MS. The maps list it as"Bell" Island, but the original spelling was "Belle".

RE: What's In A Name?

I used to race dirt modified cars, and my # was 12T. The guys that I work with, and they did all of my lettering on my car, gave me the name BigDaddy, so thats how I came up with BigDaddy12t.

GVDocHoliday 01-10-2004 11:07 AM

RE: What's In A Name?

GV is an acronym for Grand Valley, which is the State University which I currently attend. DocHoliday, well I love the movie Tombstone and just loved the way which Val Kilmer portrayed the notorious dentist. When I was in middle school I would kind of talk with that same dialect and always used the more popular phrases so my friends started calling me Doc Holiday, then it turned to just plain 'Doc'. So for me I just couldn't help but use it as part of my forum handle.

RE: What's In A Name?

I joined this site after I had a horrible start to the bow season. I missed the same 6pt. twice in a week at 15 yards - with my compound. I was making fun of myself at the time because I'm not a bad shot at all, especially with pins at 15 yards!:D

nubo 01-10-2004 02:33 PM

RE: What's In A Name?

My name is nubo because just after I bought my first bow I found this site so I shortened it a bit just because my typing skill's are very limited and I thought just maybe I could save some time if I could get rid of a couple letters.
It hasn't saved me any time and my typing still suck's.

RE: What's In A Name?

Well, mine was given to me by some coworkers and shooting and hunting buddies. Well Im pretty stocky built and they say I have no neck, add jet black hair, and they say I look like an angus bull, so Angus. It was taken by someone so I had to add the year I was born.

Pinky is the nickname that started when I was in the Marine Corps because my last name is Pinkerton. And it just kinda stuck with me. And the 79 was because pinky was taken, 79 is the year of the Trucks I have 79 F250 and 79 Bronco

John Deer 01-10-2004 03:13 PM

RE: What's In A Name?

I took this handle from a stud buck that a family friend used to own. The family friend raised and sold several different types of exotics and on his small ranch he also raised and sold deer. His stud buck was a monster 13 point that he named John Deer. John Deer was as tame as the family pet. This old buck lived, (and I swear this is the honest truth) 19 years before he died last year. I thought that the amount of years that buck lived was unbelievable! So I decided to make my handle after this magnificant deer.

Rogue 01-10-2004 04:28 PM

RE: What's In A Name?

The rogue river is only 1/2 a mile from my place and if im not hunting then im salmon or steelhead fishing there. It seems to fit because 99% of the time I hunt alone, and I have never been good at doing what i'm told to do.
