RE: which hunting show is your favorite??
Those of you who like the apparent spiritual side of Nugent should be aware that there is now also a full time YOGA channel, which is probably al lot less loud and commercial. I'm not into yoga.......... |

Proff you nailed the Nugent sales-hunt to a T.
If "da Nuge" ever gets a pass-through shot I'll pass out. Either his bow is junk or his broadheads are junk, or both. |
RE: which hunting show is your favorite??
Proff!! What a classic post!!! There ought to be a Hall of Fame for "Bowhunting Forum Posts" You would definitely get my vote!!
As far as my favorite hunting shows, I'd have to say it's tough to even think of ONE that I feel like I can really relate to. No matter what you watch, it's all about ADVERTISEMENT. I understand these guys have to make a living, but the advertisement kills me. Think what kind of shape you would be in if you bought into everything you saw advertised on the Outdoor channel. First, you would have to buy a 4WD truck with camo all over it, buy about 30 hunting stickers to put on the back glass, get a rhino tough bedliner , a trailer to haul your 4-wheeler on. Make sure you get a big trailer, too, because you'll have several camo bags loaded down with, but not limited to, rattling antlers, grunt call, bleat can, fawn call, grunt-snort-wheeze call, packaged deer turds and tarsal glands, a two year old"fresh off the shelf" bottle of doe in heat that looks more like a small bottle of coffee than urine, not to mention a Pee-Willie wick to pour it into. Binoculars, laser rangefinder, hot pockets, Walker's game ear, deer caddy, EZ hanger , pee bottle , 36 bottles of different scents to cover up your odor, and 12 bottles of water that supposedly "eliminate" it, Phantom Hunter electronic call, rattle boxes, buck and doe decoys, Starlight bloodhound, Game cameras, etc, etc , etc , etc !!!!!!!!!! And now for my all-time favorite - The cough silencer!! GOOD GRIEF CHARLIE BROWN!!! I'm just not sure what's gonna be next on the market? Either a doe fart call, or maybe The Fart Silencer. Just stick it up your anus and let her rip. Once you get all this crap, er, I mean, hunting accessories loaded into your Chevy truck, set out on a roundtrip to take you from south Texas to northern Alberta and every high fence operation in betweeen. Then , and only then , will you be an experienced , accomplished , trophy hunter. To answer the question, I'd say any serious bowhunting show where the guys hunt mature bucks on unfenced property and do so tastefully. With that, only a few come to mind. Wild Outdoors, Primos, and the Drury brothers. Shows I don't care for : Team fitzgerald( Uh, we're awesome, man, yeah dude) Ted Nugent( Use to like 'em, but got sick of hearing about God's critters and the "Spirit" then seeing him interviewed on MTV and he's cussing like a sailor.) Ted, quit selling out to whichever camera you're in front of and be a real person! And by the way, If only twenty-six hippies go to watch you play now, why do you think real bowhunters want to see you flop around on stage?? Save it for the Old-burned-out-rockers channel, please!!). Penn's woods( Howdy- Doodies in camo), and chasing the dream(Should be called 'high fence huntin'"). |
RE: which hunting show is your favorite??
I am suprised that more people haven't said "Eastman's Hunting Journal".
It is my favorite, even though I do not hunt alot of the game species he and his family hunts. |

RE: which hunting show is your favorite??
Wow!! Me in the Bowhunting Forum Post Hall of Fame. Thanks Captain Backstrap, I am honored!!;)
I must add that I am really not trying to bash Uncle Ted, I was having some fun with the obvious product pushing that he and so many of the other shows do. I know that the sponsors do help pay the bills for the production of these shows but it sure can get a little outlandish sometimes. I was a member of Ted Nugent United Sportsmen for about 12 years ( I became a member when it was still TN World Bowhunters) until I slipped and let my membership run out last year and haven't renewed it. I started listening to Ted in about 7th or 8th grade ( I always was and will be a rocker, 39 and still rockin!) and have always loved his pro hunting stance and absolutely love the way he works with kids groups to promote the outdoor lifestyle and tries to steer them to a healthy no drugs/ no alcohol life. I have alot of hunting videos from over the years and have about 13 or 14 of Ted's older videos ( Down to Earth, and the first three series of the Spirit of the Wild series). I really like the old stuff. Most of it was hunting on his land or other wild grounds in Michigan and other states. I must admit that I have been very dissapointed in the new shows for the past few years. For one, as we talked, about all the product pushing. But mostly in the area of the hunts he now shows. Everything is at the YO ranch, sitting in a big box blind with 4 or 5 different species of animals gathered around the feeder. I know the one show that really soured me, and someone mentioned it here, was the one where Ted was in a big box blind with his son Rocco, wife Shemane, two band members and another guy. They were basically just taking turns shooting different animals with rifles. man by the time they were done there were dead game evrywhere. They got down and were out just walking around taking pics of them with all these dead animals laying around. No camo, no sitting out in the elements, not worrying about scent control, movement etc. In other words, they were shooting, not hunting, but shooting. The next day at work a guy came up and said " Hey, I saw your boy Ted Nugent on his hunting show last night. " I said Oh yea, and he said " That was pathetic! My 5 year old granddaughter can do that. I sure hope that isn't the way you bowhunt around here!" I took the time to explain that I do not indeed hunt that way and admitted that I was pretty bummed out over the whole show also. One of the woods I hunt ( and where I got my buck this season) is actually about a 1/4 mile from this guys house. I have always admired the way that Ted has never caved and given in to the antis. But in the past year or so, I have noticed alot of opinions of hard core hunters as myself that feel that Ted is starting to go overboard and is actually starting to do more harm than good. I have heard this in person and read it from amny here on this Forum and others. What are your guys opinions on this. I believe that we have to stand up and fight for our rights, and Ted has always done that in a very intelligent and responsible way. But it seems like recently he is slipping a little and is actually drawing a very negative image to the hunting community. I respect his drive and his passion. I know that he has the resources to reach more people in a day that I could in a year. I have met Ted personally twice. I have pics with him and he signed one of my bows. Very cool guy. I watched him at a members meeting before a concert in Lima, Ohio meet with a 4-h group and talk to them about hunting and gun saftey. He was great. You couldn't have asked for a better advocate for us. The problem seems that lately, when the big spotlight is on he starts talking with his ego and tries to draw attention to himself more than the issues. I must admit I have talked to alot of hardcore bowhunters who have pretty much dismissed Ted as a healthy represetitive for our lifestyle anymore. I must add that these are guys who were hardcore Nuge fans and supporters just a few years ago. Hopefully he will calm down a little and rethink his presentation. I know that he is big into the he is the Alpha male thing, but sometimes it isn't the biggest, loudest and obnoxious guy who gets the job done. Hopefully Ted will realize this and win some people back, and convert some of his enemies. Also, it is a bummer when some of these guys get so heavy into the money side of the hunting industry that they get away from their roots. Like I said , I have alot of videos. My hunting buddy does also. We have just about every Dan Fitzgerald video ever. We were huge Dan fans. Man were we dissapointed when we started watching he and Guys show on the Outdoor channel. They are nothing but a 30 minute infomercial with a little hunting thrown in. We always loved that he was just a Michigan guy who loved to get out and hunt. Now it seems like it is all about the money. Too bad when that happens. Wow, sorry to write so much. I guess that I really got rolling! Hope that I didn't tick anyone off with my opinions. It is just the way that I see it and the way alot of guys I know do. Would I still like to bowhunt with Ted. Absolutely. The guy is a hoot. And homestly, one on one, he is very cool and very noce to talk to. I just hope he changes his approach a little and gets back to doing what he does best, defending our rights and spreading the word at how great and how essential the hunting lifestyle is! Thanks for letting me babble on!! Happy New Years to everyone!![:-] |
