the ones that are strictly bowhuntin. The Wild Outdoors( Jay Gregory) is one of my favorites.

Mine used to be Gregory's Wild Outdoors, but since he has added his wife and kid to the mix it has gotten a little watered down for me. I liked it when I was watching a hard-core bowhunter go after it. Now, it's like I'm watching Leave it to Beaver with some hunting.

i forgot to explain why i liked "spirit of the wild". ted hunts virtually in every possible location that he can. he also brings a lot of spiritual aspects to the sport of hunting while also throwing a little comedy into the mix. i think ted's alot like your everyday joe. one other thing is that there seems to be a lot more air time in his shows rather than a whole lot of commercials....... notice at the end of every kill he does the advertisements in the field.

Realtree Roadtrips, the Wild Outdoors, Primos' the Truth, Outdoor Video Mag and the American Archer for me.

Wildlife Obsession with the Drury's is alright, but it's basically what's on all their old videos.

The Outdoor Channel opened a door for a lot of people to have their own shows, and some of them are real a**holes. That "Chasing the Dream" show is the biggest joke I've ever seen, I'd say close to half of the Outdoor Channel line-up is garbage. The Buckmasters are crooks and Ted Nugent is far too commercial. If he spent half as much time hunting as he does yacking about the "spirit" his show would be alot better.

Primo's the Truth. When you watch the show, there are times when thier microphone picks up the sound of thier heartbeats when a buck comes into range. There are a few good shows out there like Closing the Disatance, The Wild Outdoors, Bushnell's Outdoors, etc...

I couldn't agree more. I love Uncle Ted and have a great respect for him and really hope he runs for Gov here in MI, but his entire show is set up and yacking and very little hunting.

As for the shows on Outdoor channel, they are all very entertaining and gives me a little boost to get back out there, but really, they all suck as far as teaching you anything about hunting. JMO.

I don't like watching hunting shows anymore. They have way too damn many comercials. Even when the show is on they are allways promting something. The same way with hunting magazines. Most of them are over half adds.
My favorite hunting shows are on the dicovery chanel. They don't stop every two feet and try to sell you somthing.

I've learned to hate them all - Ted's Spirit of the Wild SUCKS about as much as any of them. Seeing a elk come through the cedars of WI following a corn trail .... yeah, BIG tough challenge there huh Ted ? And then him talking like that farm was teh best elk hunting in the world and how you could experience a rocky mtn hunt .... blah blah blah ...

Of them all I think primos is as real as it gets .

Roadtrips is great. Love the Wild Outdoors. Dave Watson's show is pretty good. I like to watch Real Tree outdoors as well. A real goodie is Archer's Choice.


Bad ones.....Buckmasters....not a fan. Just a boring show.

Ted Negents Spirit of the Wild....He is just too damn goofy for me.

The Truth and Outdoor Video Magazine. I like Wild Outdoors, but as BB9 said, it has gotten a little watered down with wife and kid on the show, especially the one where wife has several great broadside shots and can't pull her bow back or arrow falls off rest. I know that can happen to any of us, but the girl looks to have way too much poundage on bow to be able to draw back. Also like HS Outdoors and Wildlife Obession, but again, they are mostly scenes from their videos.

I like Roadtrips. I also like one that most people dislike, Texas Trophy Hunter, the old dude reminds me of my grandpa.

Ted is ok but he spends too much time behind hi fence. I saw one show where they had 7 people in a shooting house on the YO Ranch. They started shooting deer. After the 3rd or 4th deer, the deer were barly flinching at the shot. They would not take a step.

I see many like MossyOak/Biologic Wildlife Obsession. and the job the Drurys do on it. It is barly a hunting show. 5 minutes of hunting, 15 minutes of some hyped up Biologic grass growing popularity contest. It is a 20 minute infomertial hardly hunting.

Doeculler, first to answer your question, the show with the Native American guy is called Redhawk Outdoors. Great show. I really enjoyed it alot. The guys name is Bob Hrobeck (sp?) His website is www.redhawkoutdoors.com I think that there will be more shows coming later.

Now to may favorites. I love Primos, Realtree Roadtrips, Wild Outdoors, Closing the Distance, Archers Choice, Bowhunter Video magazine, the Drury boys.

I can't stand Roger Raglin, Texas Trophy Hunters, Sportsmen and all these other shows where all they hunt is ranches and fenced in areas. Anyone can do it the way these guys do, excuse me I meant anyone with the deep pockets and no desire for a true hunter vs. a wild animal hunt.

I do not understand where some of you guys have the nerve to rant about Ted's Spirit of the Wild being commercial. I sure don't see it at all. I love watching Ted go out and hunt at the YO ranch with his Renegade bow with every possible Sims labs damping product, Magnus made Nugent blade broadheads. He keeps all those rust free with the rust inhibitor that he loves.Perched up in his North Star treestand, decked out in his Snakeskin illusion camo and his Essence of Fall cover scent, eating a stick of his own brand name Biltong meat stick. He sure is lucky to have his Cough Silencer in the stand for those days when he is under the weather. You know that those deer can hear just about as good as Ted and his Walkers Game Ear!!
It is great when he drills the Beast, and the Beast is dead. Long Live the Beast!!! The Spirit of the wild ( said 15 times at least) is flowing freely and he tracks the Beast with a bloodhound that was trained by an Inotek system dog training system. Then he guts the Beast with his Outdoor edge gutting knife, drags it to the back of his Chevy truck with the Glens Deer Handle, and takes it home to butcher it with the rest of his Outdoor edge Game Processor Kit!!
Where in the world do you guys get off on accusing him of commercialism?? I sure haven't noticed it at all.:D Guess I will have to pay more attention;)

I haven't heard this one yet, but I like Outbound Adventures. (I think that's the name of it.) These guys give God all the glory for all there hunting success. I think that is real cool Also, the Drury brothers are pretty good. They seem to shoot the biggest deer and they are bow hunts most of the time.

I like all of the shows to varying degrees as they are better than any alternative on the tube (except Green Bay Packer Footbal Games!), I am frustrated by the fact that they are pretty much all commercially motivated - kill shot shows. Very few actually delve into an educational aspect and I am rarely able to take anything meaningful from them and apply it in the woods. That is disappointing as they truly miss a unique opportunity to provide actual value to the viewer. Wouldn't it be cool to see someone like T.R. to do shows based in science, actual field study and successes and centered on hunter education? Ted's show is good when it is actually in the hunting segments (and I love his politics) but I can't stand watching his 80's rock revival shows from the various state fair's he plays at; and I am a life long rocker. Time and place ya know?

I like the fair chase shows. anyone can buy a video camera, pay 7 grand and shoot a tame buffalo. I do not want to see to out of shape guys wearing shorts walking up to an animal who has no fear of humans and shoot it. It's not hunting its shooting. I'll stick to the hunting shows.

I'm not too sure of the names of the shows but I like hunting shows with a fair chase. No guns only bows. I prefer deer, elk, and bow hunting turkey.

I can't believe no one is listing Eastman's hunting journal. Of all the shows these are the most realistic. Did you see last week where they were showing them cross the Snake river back in the mid 60's. There was ice in the river and everything. Even their current shows do not have much fantasy in them. Come on that is the way hunting was meant to be and not in a fenced field with protein gorged bucks.

The only way to watch any of these shows is with TIVO (or other such recorders). Best investment I ever made. I got the DirecTV/Tivo dual system which is a sat receiver and Tivo built into one so you can even record one show while watching another. Not only can you record what you can't watch, and set a weekly recording schedule, but you can fwd through all the commercials to actually watch the 15 minutes of hunting adventure.

In this way you can fast fwd through Ted Nugent's 5 minute "spirit of himself" rock and roll introduction and get to the part where he successfully arrows an animal that follows a man-made food trail to within 10 yards of his stand in what surely must be a game preserve. Most importantly, if you get absolutley sick of Nugent's rampant self glorification, TIVO has a great "delete" button.

Those of you who like the apparent spiritual side of Nugent should be aware that there is now also a full time YOGA channel, which is probably al lot less loud and commercial. :D
