Opinions on a bow. Martin guys or others please?
I'm looking at getting a bow well suited to target shooting and possibly some 3D (my hunting bow isn't what I'd call a shooters bow). There is a Cougar 2000 Fuzion (M-2001) at the shop on the used rack. It turns out it's a practically new bow, one of the owners just took it down off the rack and set it up; practiced with it very little (while in the shop), and took it out the next day hunting. He harvested a buck with it and has probably not even shot it a hundred times (maybe less than 50). It has a wiskerbiscuit droptine in camo, a decent 6 or 7 inch skyline camoed stabilizer, limbsavers, catwiskers, rope loop, and a peep site. The price on it is $225. I pulled it down to shoot today over lunch and I was quiet, fast, and stable; with a decent wall. It had a smooth draw cycle also, set at 65 lbs.
I origionally made up a list of what I was looking for in a bow and this bow meets all of the criteria. I think he would even honor the warranty on it, but I'm not sure of that quite yet.
I was considering an Ultratech but going this route would obviously save me a bunch of jack that I could use on other archery related stuff. And I kind of like the idea of being on the other end of the depreciation factor for once. And, may I add that I'm not brand loyal.
So: I'm looking for opinions on this model and my potential choices here. I'd appreciate comments from anyone that has them but I expect one from you- Cougar Mag.
Thanks in advance guys.

The only Cougar I have shot is the Cougar Magnum, of which I own. Its 36 1/2" axle-to-axle, shorter of course than the other Cougars. I love the Fusion one cam, and I imagine the longer(40 1/2" Cougar with Fusion cam would be more forgiving, with a small drop off in speed. It should be plenty fast enough! For $225, thats a great deal! I would press the shop owner for the full warranty since he shot it very little, if he will do it. My father-in-law bought a Matthews Q2XL for $400, under the exact same circumstances last yr. and the dealer gave him the full warranty.

Thanks for your help Coug. I went back in after work yesterday and took it for another test run. It's pretty nice to be able to shoot a bow with some of the silencing accesories and stuff on it. I ran it through the crono too. At the shortest setting with a 29" module and all the crap on the string, it shot a GT 5595 at 257 consistently. That was through the WB rest and pulling rite at 65 lbs. I bet most guys wouldn't think that's fast enough for them but I don't consider blazing speed that important to me, my ranging skills aren't that bad anyway and I have my lazer rangefinder for hunting and praticing my ranging skills.
Some things that I really liked about it were the narrow wood grip- glad it's not rubber- and how balanced it was in my hand. It had no forward or backward tip at all. And it is vibration free.
I asked him about warranty and he said he would treat it as if I was buying it new; which I wouldn't neccesarily expect. I went ahead and told him to hold it for me and I'll be taking it home today. Can't really see where I can go wrong with that deal.
I did figure there would be more than one comment for me but I do appreciate yours Cougar Mag. Are you the only Martin guy around here? That would be hard to believe... oh wait I quess now there's me!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
An coug. I was suprised to see finally see you talking about wanting a new bow, it just didn't sound like you. Are you not happy with it anymore or just ready for a change? Later-
Chief

Congratulations Chief, sounds like you made a great deal! Yeah, I like the wood grip myself. I am still happy with my Cougar Magnum, and if I could I would buy another one. I do kid a lot on here about shooting a Martin but am not stuck on them. Mine just seems to fit me too well to get rid of it, plus its plenty fast. I am getting a new string for it this weekend by the way. Good luck with your new bow.

cheif, i love my martin. i have a 97 fury its a twin cam speed bow its still faster than most bows. at that price there is no way you can go wrong. martins are great bows, and the company realy stands behind them. i had a limb splinter while i was practiceing, i was so upset here i was 2 weeks from my first bear hunt and no bow. i called them and was transfered twice so the third person i talked to got all the info from me and i explained the 2 weeks till i was flying out, he said no problem send the bow with everything on it and attetion ALAN. I sent the bow on friday and the next friday i came home from work and heres my bow along with a note and a scrap of paper. the note said good luck on your bear hunt! he had replaced the limbs, paper tuned it, cut the bullet hole it had made and wrote the note on it. also attached to my bow was a set of limbsavers. this was 4 years ago and one of the limbsaver fell off yesterday. apparently they had problems with some of the fury limbs and replaced them with something else. the origional set said FURY and the new set says MARTIN ARCHERY. any ways id say buy it, as long as it will do what you need it to do you should be happy with it.

Thanks for the input guys. I tuned it to me and my arrows this weekend but the weather wasn't cooperating with me so I really didn't get a chance to shoot it much. I like it so far-
