non shoulder mounted bucks? I have 3 mounted but, I have several over the years that were not big enough to mount or could not justify the price at the time in my garage that I want to mount on boards. I don't want the regular plaques like can be found in department stores. Just looking for some ideas that I can do myself, without that usual manufactured plaque look!

I dont have any pics but a few ideas. First I want to say is that I like buckeyebuckhntr's log round plaque. But why I posted is to share what my grandpa does with his mounts. He had one of his hides tanned into just plain tan leather. It is very soft and plyable. Then he wraps the base of the antlers with it and mounts it. It is in place of the red velvet stuff that you get in the kits and it looks really nice. I am about to take my elk hide in to have in tanned. I guess it takes like 6 months to get done but only costs about a $100 and you could do a bunch of them with only one hide. Just my two cents
