I guess as long as someone was sitting in the tree next to you with a rifle, that would be great as far as you're concerned too, eh Eastwood?

Climb into the stand, load weapon, put weapon's safety on and wait. Deer begins walking toward you. Raise weapon, bring the butt into the pocket of your shoulder, snuggle your cheek into the stock, put crosshairs on deer's chest, thumb off the safety. As soon as the deer is in position, you squeeze the trigger. Regardless of what kind of projectile or the effective range of the weapon, how can that possibly be called bowhunting?

I am fully in favor of the TRULY disabled having the opportunity to hunt with crossbows. The ones that pretend to be disabled but have nothing worse than a hangnail or a sore shoulder... I'd better not say what I think of those jerks.

For each and every ethical and responsible hunter crossbows would bring into our ranks, there are dozens of those kinds of creeps right behind them. We've already got too many of that kind of scum in bowhunting and we can't get rid of them. Our numbers are dwindling for sure, but having the wrong kind of people swelling our numbers would be a disaster for us.

Arthur P - Theres that elitist attitude we've been missing !

Climb into the stand, nock your arrow in your drop away rest, strap on your release and wait. Deer begins walking toward you. Raise weapon, draw your 32" bow with the 80% letoff with your release and wait , and wait, and wait ....., put pins on the deers shoulder, using your peep sight. As soon as the deer is in position, you squeeze the trigger. Regardless of what kind of projectile or the effective range of the weapon, how can that possibly be called bowhunting?

You see, as you can tear down what a crossbow is, so can I apply the VERY SAME rules and a compound will also fall into place nicely right there with crossbows.

Oh Dave H ? Where are you buddy ? Wheres that 1 negative about crossbows I'm asking about ?

Why thank you, Z! It's always refreshing to be called an elitist. It always means that my comment is absolutely true and the name caller doesn't have an adequate argument against it.

And the question isn't whether the compound falls into place with crossbows. It's a question of how the crossbow falls into place with bows. ALL bows, not just compounds. Sure, most guys are hunting with them, but there is a growing number of people that are getting sick of the techno rat race and are baling off the bandwagon to take up shooting stickbows. (Try it, it's FUN!)

A wheeled and scoped crossbow doesn't fall neatly into place with recurves, longbows and selfbows. By your argument, neither do compounds. Hey guys! Zelazny just just said compounds don't belong in bow season!! You aren't going to stand for THAT are you?

:D

RE: using a crossbow?

Up untill a couple years ago, I was all far, any hunter usin a xbow. but, I was camped out the first week of archery season couple yrs ago in a NWR. there had to have been at least 30 more hunters camped in the same area. and all but me and maybe 1 more were usin xbows. I couldn't tell that any of these guys were disabled. I'm beginning to see the light here. I think most of these guys are just to lazy, and don't want to spend the time it takes to learn how to shoot a compound. and I doubt if they practiced shootin at all before season.
now, I wish Ar would pass a law requiring xbow hunters to have a disibillity permit. just think, if a law like that had been in effect 2 yrs ago, there wouldn't have been but me and one more guy huntin all those woods. that would have been nice.;) I know that sounds selfish, and maybe it is, but if ya'll had seen these guys, who most of them were down there to get drunk, ya'll might just agree with me.;)

bogobble that deal about them sitting around and getting drunk rings a bell. A day or two before opening day of Texas' general season, there was a news item on TV that got my attention. Law enforcement was planning to be out in force to patrol the highways. Seems the biggest problem on our highways on morning of opening day is DRUNK DRIVERS.

Question for those who say crossbows will recruit more hunters... Just what KIND of people will they recruit? What will be their impact on our public image? Sure, there will be many that are ethical and responsible hunters, but how many scumbags will tag along with them? We've already got plenty of idiots and slobs calling themselves 'bowhunters.' We don't need any more of that kind of trash.

For all you holier than thou bow hunters I have a question, any of you guys use bait when fishing( assuming some of you holier than thou people fish).Well everyone knows that using bait is cheating by people too lazy to learn how to fish with lures or flies.Bait should only be allowed to be used by verified handicapped people who can't cast a lure or fly for hours on end. The definition of bait shall be any animal matter (ie: pork rind) , any marine life or marine life by products (ie: spray on scents, roe bags).

bogobble what difference would it have made if it had been "BOW" only? they would have still been drunk right?
heck look at gun season? heck let's ban all hunters that drink.................hey you "BOW HUNTERS" would be banned also!

Arthur P get off the "bowhunters " soapbox .
NO!

You're right. There are already too many idiots and slobs in hunting, period, and it's getting worse year after year. But that is no reason to keep quiet and let bowhunting be dragged down to the shallow end of the gene pool like other forms of hunting have been.
