RE: using a crossbow?
Notice that few people who have them legal in their states complain ? maybe its because theres not really the Huge impact thats feared when they are made legal, not anymore than compounds were when they were made legal.

RE: using a crossbow?
If you don't make your own bow of yew or osage. And you don't make your own string from flax or hemp. And you don't make your own shafts from ash, maple, (or fill in the blank). And you don't knap your own arrowheads from flint or obsidian. THEN DON'T PREACH TO ME ABOUT EQUIPMENT!
You know what? We don't need to worry about organizations like PETA, Friends of Animals, "greens", etc. WE ARE OUR OWN WORST ENEMIES.....AND TOO IGNORANT TO KNOW IT! |
RE: using a crossbow?
akbound - You are an ostrich, did you know that ?

RE: using a crossbow?
Yes Zelany,
Here....have an egg[:-]! P.S. And if we keep the "in-fighting" alive....we will all be Dodo's! |
RE: using a crossbow?
Zelazny.....aka Stealthycat, although this quoted question was addressed to VC, I am going to give my answer:
VC - Not that simple though because many states are seeing a push for legalization of crossbows in general archery season. Do you agree with a crossbow in general archery season ? Why or why not ? 2. I agree that a crossbow should be used in general archery seasons IF the person has validation from a physician that he/she is physically unable to pull traditional or compound archery equipment! 3. Why? Within my answer lies the answer to the debate of Xbows............any recurve, longbow, or compound must be handrawn and handheld. An Xbow IS NOT HANDRAWN AND HANDHELD. When it comes down to it.........a weapon that can be held for hours ready for the trigger to be pulled IS NOT archery equipment, whether it deploys gunpowder or not. Even compound bows that have 80% letoff cannot be held at full draw for very long, more than a minute at best would be a physical event. |
RE: using a crossbow?
When it comes down to it.........a weapon that can be held for hours ready for the trigger to be pulled IS NOT archery equipment, From my understanding those bows can be drawn and pointed to the ground and the user can let go of the riser so basicly you can have them already drawn and held at full draw for hours. |
RE: using a crossbow?
So does this mean that the new 99% let off bows are not archery equiopment? Stealthy, is that really you? LOL And all this time I thought I was debating someone else. We've been around this same stupid tree way too many times, you and I, and you're still the same ol' Stealthy. Now I don't feel so bad about some of the little barbs I flung at you. :D:D |
RE: using a crossbow?
I have not seen one of these 99% letoff bows, besides the speed would be undoubtedly slow and when releasing, I cannot imagine what it would feel like. Personally 65% letoff is my limit......I hate that recoil and feel of anything higher.
Perhaps most states would then put the amount of letoff that could legally be used, in their handbooks. After further thought, any bow with a 99% letoff should be classified as a crossbow in my opinion. |
RE: using a crossbow?
1. Many states are pushing for legalization of crossbows in general archery season because of extra money through the sale of permits and licenses........plain and simple! If its all about the draw, again I will point to the differences between compounds and recurves/longbows. It IS a valid comparison because ya'll say compounds are so bow-like and crossbows are not. Which has been around longger Cougar ? Which do people use most even in states that have elgalized crossbows ? C'mon, you're trying to take the one difference between crossbows and compounds and making your whole argument on it - but when I point out the exact same differences in pulling 100% and holding 100% vs the letoff and gadgets of compounds - its not the same - why ? of course its the same ! You do not use a recurve - why ? 90% or more of bowhunters don't use recurves/longbows - WHY ? ITS NOT EASY so they use compounds, which are easy in comparison. WHY ? LETOFF AND DRAW, the same reason crossbows are easier. |
RE: using a crossbow?
Ha ha ha ha! Now you are trying to pit traditonal archery equipment against compound archery equipment.........it will not work!
By the way....crossbows are too easy. It still boils down to being hand drawn and hand held as the main differences between traditional & compound versus crossbows. |
