I took a fatty doe tonite with the shotgun. Now that I will have two in the freezer the pressure is off. I got a nice buck and a doe with my bow but gave one away to a friend who badly wanted one. I want to enjoy December bow season and not worry about meat. My 4 boys have no problem going through 2 deer before the next season rolls around so now I can relax and look for old Mossy with my bow.
Just curious, how many of the bow hunters here also hunt with a gun? I used to hunt the blackpowder season but it is in the middle of late bow so I just go out with the bow in Dec. I have killed more with my bow but mainly because I put in way more time with the bow, but I still enjoy using a gun too.

lobi - your profile doesn' t say, but sounds like you' re in MI?
Same here - I hunt the mid Dec muzzleloader maybe one weekend, but mainly bow through Jan 1. One in the freezer so far, you bet I' ll be out there.

know what you mean, its almost like a panic until you get that first one in the freezer. then you can coast the rest of the season. my only problem is that gave half of my first one to my landowner. pressure is back on!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gun hunt allso , got a nice doe this year with the omega . Last year I got 2 deer in archery and watched a bunch in gun , didnt pull the triger once . Bowhunting whitetails is what does it for me . Its much more exciting that gun hunting , but I' ll do both untill I have a nice one for the wall , keeps me out in the woods longer allso .

I also reluctantly gun hunt. It' s definitely not the same, but it' s better than nothing. I think your chances of scoring during gun season last about the first 4 hours of opening day. After that...........poof they' re gone, then it' s purely pot luck. I have harvested a doe this season in gun which was rather surprising.

Congrats !
I was feeling pressured not having got a shot at a deer before the gun season - well, I did' t get much chance to hunt in the gun weeks, but patience paid off and I got a doe Sunday morning with the bow (see my post)
