Awesome pics and bucks. Wild animals have an amazing ability to heal quickly, but it surprises me that there were no scars on the hide or in the meat. I' d have to say that the wound happened at least 2 years prior for all that tissue to heal over. Think about humans that have gotten nasty cuts, they might show those scars for the rest of their lives. Was there any scaring on the inside of the hide? That' ll make a great addition to the mount. If that buck could tell stories, he' s probably got a ton of great stuff.

Congrats again!

Thats what I was thinking ABM, by the way long time no see, It was odd that neither the inside or outside of the cape showed any sign what so ever of an injury, when I found the arrow, thats the first thing I checked, was the outside, then the inside of the cape. I am amazed that only a shot piece of an arrow was there, I thought that it could break fluch with the skin and heal, but this piece of arrow did not even stick into the back stap meat, it was flush with the small bones that stick straight off the spine, the ones that run along the center of the back on eash side of the back straps.

I figured they heal pretty quick, a human can break a leg and the bone will fuse back together enough to walk on it freely after 6 to 8 weeks.

Glad I got to see the pics. Worth waiting for. Nice bucks. I' m guessing that wound healed up pretty quick. Like someone already mentioned with bones that heal in a cast is several weeks. Proabably in that situation with not being able to stabilized the would it may have taken several months.

That' s a great story and a great thread. Nice job on the pics, they are awesome. The attention to detail in the pics, the way you display it and the obvious amount of work you put into it really bring out the beauty of that coffee mug. The deer and arrow pics aren' t bad either. :D

Seriously, that' s pretty neat experience, and a couple of great deer, to go along with that awesome mug, of course. ;)
