Button bucks don' t have antlers to shed. If it has antlers, it' s a spike.

Well, buttons are antlers so I would assume they shed them.

Button bucks can, and some do grow polished antler. It a couple of years ago I mistook a button for a doe in the gun season. It had polished nubs about 3/4 inch long. So the answer would have to be yes. They would have to shed the existing antler in order to grow antlers the following year.

Those would be some tough sheds to find. It would be even tougher to tell if you had a matching set.

Well I just called ODNR (Ohio department of natural resources) and talked to the deer biologst located at the Waterloo facility. He told me all button bucks do have polished antler and all shed this hardend bone at years end. ODNR waterloo facility # (740-664-2745).

So once again the answer is YES

Not something we think about every day is it? My family has raised a few bucks in the past, and the old man was messing around with one of them, and knocked it' s " buttons" off. They were about 1/2 an inch long and pollished. It really suprised us.

I was just wondering how many fellow hunters new this.

buckeyebuckhntr, you must have a lot of time on your hands to be calling ODNR.
