A monster I used to work out with with biceps the size of my thighs hunted with a 120lb bow. I don' t know who made it, and it might have been a completely custom job. I' m a big guy and could probably draw the 100lber, but I can' t imagine why on the local deer. If I went to Africa, I' d be all for it. I think 80lb is mandatory in some African countries. I' m actually considering dropping down to the mid 60' s and using a slightly lighter arrow from Forge.

KE over 100 ft-lbs, that is just an insane number! Out of a bowtech no less. I wonder how fast that arrow was moving?

Just think about that, if he were shooting the minimum of 5gr/lb that would put his arrow at 500gr...ABSOLOUTE MINIMUM WEIGHT.

I wonder if shooting ke over 100 would make you more accurete and longer distance shots. It would make sence to me but I don' t want to rip up my back to do the reserch. [:o]

It is overkill unless you' re hunting big game where you want the best penetration. There is little difference in arrow speed but a big difference in kinetic energy. That' s the biggest benefit.

If I were your friend I would shoot a 2" cut expandable broadhead. Talk about a short tracking job!!!!!;)

My last two bows both made in excess of 85 lbs of energy and I only hunt whitetails with them. The more KE the more you can crowd the shoulder and avoid paunch hits. I am not a big guy (6' 2" ,220 lbs) but had no problem working up to 80lbs. The problem for most people is they don' t use their " bow drawing" muscles for much other than drawing a bow. I shoot my bow just about year round and I waterski all summer. Waterskiing works the same muscles used to draw a bow. Proving this fact are the friends of mine that are bigger than me that can' t draw my bow.

Granted, all that KE usually ends up in the ground past the deer but if you hit bone penetration is still excellent. One other benefit is that my current setup will be effective for any animal on this continent. Cold days are tough though and it is a good idea to draw your bow hourly to keep loose.

whats the difference in burying a arrow 4 inches in the ground or 24? its still a kill. i will take my 52 lb and hold it for 5 minutes at full draw over that 100 lber any day.

I have shot heavy bows all my life, some in excess of 100lbs. and some recurves in excess of 80 lbs. The bottom line is the weight does not kill the animal. A sharp broadhead does when it hit' s where it is supposed to. My point is you have to be able to hit where you aim consistantly otherwise all the weight in the world won' t help you. This applies to us all.
