DEER STAND THEFT PREVENTION

I'm sure he figured something out within the last twelve years or so.

LOL dug DEEP in the grave for this one. But that little doohickey wouldn't stop anyone anyway. The back of the ladder is still perfectly climbable for 2 steps that it would take to reach the open step. I'm doubting anyone would have been dumb enough not to figure that one out. If I could, a learning disabled chimp could. (was that PC enough?)

I find that a sturdy cable with a lock will keep the mostly honest people honest, but the low-life thief will take more to slow down.
I do believe that any boobie traps will land you in jail just like setting a trap in your home.

I almost exclusively hunt private land, mostly my own family's. It really sucks when they steal them off of your own land. I have had it happen a few times. Like several have said on here, make it as difficult as possible.

I attach all my ladder stands to the tree with a piece of 4" long by 1/4" flat bar stock with a slight bend in the middle. I then drill a 1/2" hole in each end. I use 6" lag bolts to attach the flat strap to the tree just behind the seat across a piece of the flat bar used to make the stand.
I make sure the ladder legs are down in the dirt solid before strapping it in place. I then take 2 3' foot pieces if 1/2" rebar bent like a candycane and criss-cross them across the lowest step. Cant pull the ladder up or the stand down.

I' ve only lost 1 stand but have come up with a plan to maim the sorry bastard who thinks he can take my property. If you' re using screw in steps, take a couple and with a dremal tool make a fine cut along the portion you would grab with your hand( also the part you step on). Make this cut just long enough that it will hold a razorblade firmly. keep a couple of blades in you pocket and when climbing down for the night insert the blades into the steps and take the last 3 or 4 step as you normally would. Now if all goes as planned when the sorry bastard shimmies up the tree and grabs that 1st step (usually it would be a lunge with all the persons bodyweight below it) they will find that they have cut their finger to the bone on the razorblades that have been inserted into the steps. Unfourtanly the hospital won' t tell you has been treated for finger lacerations so it may be tought to find the person if you' d like to beat them in the head.
Just keep in mind that you need to take these blades out as you climb up he next morning otherwise it could be you with the lacerations. I don' t condone violence but I am an advocate for " personal property"

Adams is full of crap or on his way to prison sometime in the future! The law does not look favorably on booby traps since a booby trap cannot tell the difference between a thief and a curious person. Flat stupid thing to do!

That the thieves are all stupid; that the hunters who leave stands in the woods at night are brilliant.
Many hunters have inherent weaknesses they don't brag about on a forum. thieves don't mind discussing , among themselves, hunter weaknesses.
