RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
That' s the reason I won' t leave my stands--hang-on type or climber--in place except for over night when I' m hunting there again the following morning.

RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
I' ve had stands stolen in the past but nothing this year. I swear to God that if any of my stands come up missing I am going to personally devote every waking minute of my life to finding the person who took it and beating the living hell out of them.
It' s bad enough we have to worry about the antis bothering us, but we have to watch out for other hunters too. |
RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
I have had one stand stolen. It is probably only a matter of time before I will have another taken.
As a surveyor I work with says..." people s*ck..." It is too bad that some of these people pretend to be hunters. What goes around, comes around...keep your faith! |

Sorry to hear of your misfortune!! I hope whoever stole it falls out of it and kills himself!!![:-]

RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
Well I' m gonna play Devils advocate here.:D I once hunted with a guy (on his place), that cut down every stand he found on his property. He said he had to run 5 or 6 people off of his place every deer season for hunting without permission and tresspassing. He told me that if they wanted their stands back, they could come to his house and get them..........not one of them has showed up to date to retrieve a stand.;) But anyone that will mess with a stand on a place that you have permission, ought to be drawn and quartered, and then shot.[:@]

I have my own place to hunt on so I built box stands. I think I have $30 in each stand . You can' t really steal them just tear them down and so far no one has bothered them. They aren' t fancy, but are about 14 feet high, with sides and a peice of plywood on the top to keep out the rain, but its big enough to put in an old kitchen chair to make things comfy.

Sometimes i like to cut some small branches with leaves and cover up my stand. I also lock it with a small lock and in such a manner you can only get to it by unlocking the lock or literally cutting the stand in half. Sometimes if you use ladders to get to your stand you can take' em down everytime you leave the stand. And put ' em up when you head out in the evening.

OK, this thread is a jinx.
I have been hunting the same land for the past 8 years. I never had a stand stolen in all that time. Well low and behold, I read this thread on Friday and on Saturday morning walked to my " stand" and found it was gone. I was pissed but proceded to go to one of my other stands. That too was gone. Now I' m really pissed. I make my way to one of my buddies stands, and that is gone, go to the next stand. You guessed it gone. In total they got 5 of our stands (5 out of 8). The other three were marked with the same reflective tape as the others but they must have run out of time or were planning to come back for them. All of the stands had trails marked right to them with reflective tape. They must have found them during the day, marked them and then come back at night for them. To say we are pissed is an understatement. I now can not leave my stand in the tree and have to put it up everytime I use it. So much for getting in nice and quietly in the morning. Just needed to vent. |
