I feel your pain, Ive had 9 of them stolen, all locked up, and most on private property. I stopped putting locks on them, if they want them theyll get them.

Welcome to the Club - and the reason I now hunt with a climber
I have had over 15 stands stolen from me. My fellow hunters when not trying there best to get into the Poach&Young club love to take others property[:' (][:' (] I hunt amoung a sea of A-holes |
RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
I' ve lost 3 stands over the years. I too now use a climber exclusively except on my own property.

RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
I had a coulple stands stolen last year. We knew who took them, and went and got them back. They wont be taking any more of my stands. :D

RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
best way to solve this is set up a trail cam and then start talking loudly in the coffey shop about that awsome stand you hung over on the north 40. You will often find out who are your friends and who thinks they need a new stand. You only have to go to one guys house with pics and retrieve that stand he BORROWED and most of your stands will be safe for a while.;)

RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
Yep ,all the time people are taking things here. Heck even the PGC stole a setof antlers off my porch
|
RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
Cardeer, after reading your posts about the way things are in your neck of the woods I' m not surprised the PGC would do such a thing. Sounds like you' ve dealt with more than your share of crap over the years.

RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!

|
RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
That' s the reason I won' t leave my stands--hang-on type or climber--in place except for over night when I' m hunting there again the following morning.

RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
I got a game cam stolen earlier this year... man it sucks![:' (]
|
RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
I' ve had stands stolen in the past but nothing this year. I swear to God that if any of my stands come up missing I am going to personally devote every waking minute of my life to finding the person who took it and beating the living hell out of them.
It' s bad enough we have to worry about the antis bothering us, but we have to watch out for other hunters too. |
RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
I have had one stand stolen. It is probably only a matter of time before I will have another taken.
As a surveyor I work with says..." people s*ck..." It is too bad that some of these people pretend to be hunters. What goes around, comes around...keep your faith! |
RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
Sorry to hear of your misfortune!! I hope whoever stole it falls out of it and kills himself!!![:-]

RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
Well I' m gonna play Devils advocate here.:D I once hunted with a guy (on his place), that cut down every stand he found on his property. He said he had to run 5 or 6 people off of his place every deer season for hunting without permission and tresspassing. He told me that if they wanted their stands back, they could come to his house and get them..........not one of them has showed up to date to retrieve a stand.;) But anyone that will mess with a stand on a place that you have permission, ought to be drawn and quartered, and then shot.[:@]

RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
I have my own place to hunt on so I built box stands. I think I have $30 in each stand . You can' t really steal them just tear them down and so far no one has bothered them. They aren' t fancy, but are about 14 feet high, with sides and a peice of plywood on the top to keep out the rain, but its big enough to put in an old kitchen chair to make things comfy.

RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
Sometimes i like to cut some small branches with leaves and cover up my stand. I also lock it with a small lock and in such a manner you can only get to it by unlocking the lock or literally cutting the stand in half. Sometimes if you use ladders to get to your stand you can take' em down everytime you leave the stand. And put ' em up when you head out in the evening.

RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
OK, this thread is a jinx.
I have been hunting the same land for the past 8 years. I never had a stand stolen in all that time. Well low and behold, I read this thread on Friday and on Saturday morning walked to my " stand" and found it was gone. I was pissed but proceded to go to one of my other stands. That too was gone. Now I' m really pissed. I make my way to one of my buddies stands, and that is gone, go to the next stand. You guessed it gone. In total they got 5 of our stands (5 out of 8). The other three were marked with the same reflective tape as the others but they must have run out of time or were planning to come back for them. All of the stands had trails marked right to them with reflective tape. They must have found them during the day, marked them and then come back at night for them. To say we are pissed is an understatement. I now can not leave my stand in the tree and have to put it up everytime I use it. So much for getting in nice and quietly in the morning. Just needed to vent. |
RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
Hey Flipout,
You said that they were marked with reflective tape? is it sticky tape on one side. if so It may be worth collecting some and bringing it to the police station(if you filed a report) There is a good chance that they have left finger prints on the sticky portion of the tape. If it was punk kids in the aera there may be a chance that the kids may have a record and prints on file at the local police station. It may be worth a bit of your time to investigate. Sorry to hear though. Did you read my post on preventing stand theft thread. time to get a dremal tool and some blades. I' d bet you can stop future thefts with the method I' d mentioned. |
RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
Well I havent had a stand stolen.. well not yet knock on wood. BUt I have had two bows stolen..one just last Thursday night (see my post about anyone selling a bow). It sucks..that feeling you get when you find out something you worked hard for and invested time into is gone.
Adam as far as the cops.. I could tell where they jimmied the door at( I use to do repos) and did not touch the inside rear handle at all and they would not print. Maybe they will do it for you guys! |
RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
Sorry to hear of your misfortune guys.
My brother and I have not had any stolen on our land for the past 5 years. Thankfully. But we have only to fixed stands up, Loc-on. We use climbing stands most of the time. Even on our Food plots and feeders. The problems that we have is that other people hunt our food plots, if we put a stand up there. So, we just hunt out of climbing stands and usually we don' t leave them in the woods unless my brother is there and hunting every day in one of them. We did have a camtraker stolen last year, though. It was set up on a property line and we assume someone was trespassing and didn' t want to get caught. I wish he' d have taken the film and left the camera. We haven' t put up another one since. |
RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
this is yet another reason to use a climber, even though you are limited to the tree you can put them in with a climber you always know where it is!

RE: stand thiefs! aaaawwwww! anyone else get robbed!
My buddy had the same stand stolen two years in a row. He recovered it both times. The first time a guy had cut the tree down above the stand with a chain saw. A few days later he saw a guy on the side of the road putting a stand in his truck that looked identical to his stand. He stopped and asked the guy about it - the guy said he bought it years ago. My buddy reached into the back of his truck and turned it over and it still had his name and address on it. My buddy is a big guy you want to mess with. Needless to say, the dude' s truck was no longer new as my friend kicked all the panels in around the bed. The next year he caught the guy' s trying to steal his stand. They also got their asses kicked.
