RE: Sit or stand??

i shoot standing as well. my climber has that same bar, and I usually have to stand to shoot.

RE: Sit or stand??

I always stand to shoot--haven' t even practiced sitting ' cause I don' t plan on shooting that way. All but one of my stands are fixed position hang-on type. The Climber is an Ol' Man and has the footrest/gunrest bar which I thought would be so nice. WRONG! The footrest' s comfort is far outweighed by the rails getting in the way at very innopportune times.

I never stand to shoot unless i absolutely have to in order to make a shot. I use nothing but loc-ons and i would say that 90% of my shots are taken while sitting.

RE: Sit or stand??

I have only shot one deer while sitting and I would actually prefer to shoot from a sitting position more often. But, how many times do you have deer that are straight ahead of you that provide a decent shot? Not too often. I found that sitting and shooting from that position gives me better control and that there is less to worry about as far as your stand squeking or your foot moving, etc. Pulling back was quite easy and it felt like I was shooting from my recliner!!

But, 95% of my deer have been harvested from standing. I have almost 360 degree range and mobility when in a standing position. I usually end up standing for the first 2 hours and last 2 hours of my hunt. Sit when I get extremely cold or legs get tired. I use a Summit stand and most often position the seat/upper portion of stand on the other side of the tree so it' s out of the way and just use my platform. This gives me great 360 degree rotation without any obstructions in the way!

Do both, and practice both. I prefer to sit but you can' t always get the perfect angle when sitting.

I' ve taken deer either way. Most of them were while standing, but two were seated while the deer were on my left. I usually stand since you never know which way the deer will be coming from. I don' t think I could take a seated shot to my right.

Got more replies than I expected, thanks. I' ll do what Iv' e done in the past that is Stand in the morning, sit thru the day and stand in the late afternoon. I haven' t tried to shoot while sitting from this stand yet. The only thing in my yard that I can put a stand on is a phone pole. I' ll put it low and give it a try latter this weekend.I agree with what Pahunter said, " watch the bar!" the bar is what scares me espically with a Q2XL. Thanks Jim

I' ve probably shot more deer sitting than standing. Once the adrenaline starts pumping, I find it easier to remain rock steady when seated. Besides, I' m old and lazy!
