Default Bonehead move

I posted about shooting a doe several days ago... Well, i hunt in Pa, and my fellows Pa hunters know this is the first year for the anterless zones. I had recieved a tag for zone 1A and 5B. Well by complete mistake i had tagged my doe with the ear tag for zone 5B but had killed her in zone 1A. So now i have no doe tag for Zone 5B and an unused one for 1A. This was an honest mistake, but how do i go about getting a replacement for 5B and make the game commision understand that it was an honest mistake, that doesn' t warrant a fine.

tough one, but I' m with charlie, turning yourself in could be more hassle than its worth. But getting caught tagging a deer, with wrong tags when you shoot the next one will also suck. If you think you can cover the mistake, go for it. Otherwise throw yourself at the mercy of the sometimes not so understanding law, in which case I wish you luck.

Being from PA myself, and knowing the PGC, I wouldn' t tell them about it. Just hunt in the 5b zone, and hope they don' t find out about your accedent, or you will have more problems.

I' ll have to go against the grain here. I would tell them. I highly doubt you will get a ticket and they will pobably make it right for you. If you just keep hunting and get caught I will guarantee you a ticket and maybe worse, like revoked hunting privledges. Not sure how the Game and Fish is in PA but here, they are ok to deal with.

I' ll have to say NO... for one reason. You aren' t going to be reissued a tag for the used zone. They have NO way of separating the scams from the truths. AND, they' ll tell you it' s YOUR responsibility to fill out the right tag. What you did was break the law. The doe tags for that zone have been issued and they aren' t making any more for dummies that can' t read. They may not give you a ticket... but they sure aren' t going to give you a tag more than likely. Hunt with what you got, which is what you should have... one more doe tag.

That said, I did the same thing in NY one year. I was hunting the early bow season. During that season you use unused tags from last year. The new bow tags weren' t good until Oct 1st. I shot a deer on Sept 29. I didn' t have my glasses, it was getting dark, and I couldn' t see. I filled out the upcoming seasons tag before it was valid. I was on my way home the next day and saw to Game Wardens at a deer check station. I stopped an told them my problem. The did issue me a new tag for the upcoming season... but it' s a little different.

To top it off, the dummy I am, I guess I lost my regular firearms tag when I pulled everything out of my pack. I didn' t know it until I got home in Maryland the next day. I called Albany and told them ALL my story. Their comment was, they shouldn' t have reissued you a new tag in the field. So I ask about getting a new rifle tag. They said they couldn' t do that, they' d have to reissue as soon as I faxed them a statement. which I did. Guess what the sent me. THREE tags, bow, muzzleloader and firearms. So there I was with a field issued bow tag, a muzzleloader tag and 3 tags sent from Albany.[][] I figured it was a test so tore up the old Muzzleloader and field issue bow.

I realize what I did was really stupid. But i did have a valid tag for each zone, and didn' t do anything wrong other than accidently mistaking one tag for other since the only difference is a small set of numbers. Im going to call the county treasurer and see what they say and explain to them it was an accident just caused by being excited and see what they say.
