Does rain help cleanse the area of scent?

After a good rain should an area be free from what ever you have left in it, kind of like the convicts running trough the water to escape the bloodhounds. I have one really good area to hunt, almost always see deer there, I try to only go
there a couple of times a week, but we have just gotten a good steady overnight rain and I thought I might sneak in an extra one. I just hunted there last night and saw 14 deer on their way out to the fields.

I don' t know the answer to your question but I asked a coon hunter one time if rain washed the coons scent away and made it harder on the dog to trail. He said that the rain actually made it better and easier for the dog so that would seem the rain didn' t wash it away.

I don' t know the real answer, but I always believed a rainfall would cleanse the area. Maybe, maybe not. I like hunting in the light rain or drizzle because I believed my scent was covered and because walking to the stand was just about as silent as one could be.

I' ve always thought so, but I' ve read some articles recently that suggest otherwise. My guess would be that the rain washes some scent away, but not all of it. I know the rain doesn' t keep a bloodhound from trailing, so I doubt it' ll keep a deer from smelling my scent.

Rain can wash away scent......
But it won' t wash away a smart deers memory
So if they have picked up any of your scent a few days before - the rain will wash it away - but them little buggers will still remember

I have an opinion which is that yes a heavy rain will wash away scent, but a light mist will actually reactivate it. There man to aks would be TR!

As a bird hunter, I can tell you how the dogs respond. A heavy rain will wash out the scent. Although, a light mist or dew will actually enhance the scent left behind and make it easier for them to pick up.
