That is pretty much the same way I do it also. Only I use 40% and only leave it on for a few hours then rinse and check for whiteness. If a tooth falls out just glue it back in when done.

If you can find a big ant hill, like we have in the mts in PA, burying a skinned skull in one of them and leaving it for a few months will get it pretty clean. http://www.backyardbiology.net/Natur...ts_story.shtml These guys. Not as good as beetles but pretty clean. Of course it isn't fun to dig around the bottom of an ant hill.

I've only done the one nice mule deer I shot in Wyoming last year and I suggest that you not boil a skull, but rather let it simmer for quite a few hours, taking it out every once in a whole and taking off what has loosened up and skimming the junk out of the water that came off. After it is really done in the water take a sturdy brush and clean it off well so all there is is bone left and let it dry. Then I used a dry powder that you mix with water to make a paste and I applied it liberally to the entire skull to further whiten it, left it for 24 hours, and then flushed it all off with fresh water and a brush.

And there are quite large anthills. I agree that the ants will clean it up well then it must be bleach.
