I have a Horton Hawk SL that keeps shooting very inconsistant. I bought this stupid thing to hunt thicker areas I can' t hunt with my Compound. I have a Horton Scope on the bow shooting Horton sl2 lite arrows with Thunderhead 125 grain.
Now to my question. I went to a pro shop local for me and he told me after shooting my bow 1 time that it was the Thunderheads, He told me to switch to Muzzy' s. 2 of my friends have the same bow and do not have this problem with Thunderheads. Keep in mind this bow is BRAND NEW. Does this sound right?????

You said your friends have the same bow? Do they shoot the same arrows as you? Same poundage? Same weight broadheads? If so, have you tried shooting your arrows with their crossbow and vise versa. I assume you are talking bout a crossbow?
Your arrows/bolts what ever you want to call them may be incorrect....
I use a compound and cannot get any fixed blade to fly right, and i am not going to change my set up just to get them to fly right..So i use steelhead expandables, and also jackhammers..My personal experience with these are I LOVE EM.....You may want to consider trying expandables..But that is your decision to make....
Just a thought....

DUHUNT,
Everything is the exact same and I have tried what you suggested with the bolts. I just bought some muzzy 125' s tonight, and will try them if this doesn' t work I guess I will have to ry mechanicals. How was your bow shooting with fixed blades?

My oh my! I know nothing about crossbows.
I do have one question though and cannot help but to ask it...........why would a crossbow be any more useful than a compound in that thick brush.......unless you feel you lack profientcy hunting with your compound? I for one, know of nobody who uses a crossbow that can outshoot a good compound bow shooter. Just wondering.

Zuker - Inconsistant how?
Are the shots all over the place? Or do they tend to group together - just not where you were aiming?
BTW - 1 shot by the " pro" is not going to give him that much information - unless there is an obvious mechanical malfunction.
Hey Cougar - heck we can' t even use a cross bow in Illinois unless we have a Dr' s. permission slip.

Cougar,
I am a good shot with my compund but have you ever tried to pull one back in a tree lounge??? and in real thick areas I feel more confident with my crossbow JMO.
Justin,
One shot is dead center then the next is way left. And I wasusing the same arrow. My whole point was the pro shop didn' t give me the time of day. I think something is wrong with the bow and he is telling me it' s my broadheads WHO KNOWS?

ZUKER,
I used the muzzy 125' s with my first bow a,golden eagle..shot pretty good just not consistent like what you said...then i bought a pse thunderbolt and omg they would be on course then all of a sudden swing out right....actually aiming for vitals
(on a target) and would hit the butt every time....so i switched to the mechanicals
and was really pleased at how accurate they really are...i did try other fixed blades but to no prevail.....now there is the new crimson talons ,they are supposed to fly just like the mech' s ...but i cannot say for sure cause i have not tried them yet.....but i most deffinately will...if they do fly straight and true i probably will go back to them, being fixed blade and all... after all you get better penetration with fixed blade than you do mech' s.....however i do like the mech' s alot ..i have gotten pass through shots with them...and the cutting diameter is awesome!!!!! but that is my opinoin...we could get into alot of discussion about how to make fixed blades fly straight #1 reduce poundage...etc but i am not willing to reduce the poundage i pull so....are you using something to stabalize the bow when shooting? like a shooting rail? or are you shooting it like normal?
if you want to talk a little more bout it e-mail me @ [email protected]
it' s up to you....You wouldn' t happen to be talking about TOWN HALL ARCHERY IN BELLEVILLE ILLINOIS would you? cause that sounds just like them..THEY ARE JERKS.....MONEY HUNGRY JERKS NOT LIKE THEY USED TO BE!!!!!

Excuse me if I got the wrong impression from your post, but I take it you' re just starting to shoot a crossbow? You do know a crossbow is very particular about how it' s drawn and cocked, don' t you? If you have the string the least bit off center in the latch, the limbs aren' t equally bent and that will cause the arrow to be launched off to the side. That problem is even worse with a broadhead. That' s where a mechanical cocking device is worth it' s weight in gold. They cock the bow exactly the same and centered each time.
