I never saw them until I shot them, but I knew there were big bucks in the area from the sign. I don' t think anyone had seen them to my knowledge.

I understand the whole you know there is a big buck in the area from sign left behind. That isn' t really what I was getting at, but do appericate all the comments. I just had some absolute monster rubs last year in my woods. I saw quite a few nice bucks 16-18 inch spreads but I don' t think these rubs were from any of them. I tried to post a pic of a couple of them but it says file is to large. If you would like to see them and can post them another way I don' t know I will email them to you. Thanks

I' ve killed 5 P&Y size bucks and had never seen any of them prior to killing them. I took one exceptionally large one and believe that I had seen his tracks a month or so prior but that' s it. I think your best bet for scouting a large deer sometimes is to look down and find large tracks that you can relate to his potential movement patterns.

Alot of mature bucks are taken during rut. Well, this is when they are not in their home range and unfamiliar with their surroundings hence most bucks are taken by hunters that had no idea they existed because they did not see them while hunting or scouting prior. Bucks travel up to five miles to find motel 6 during the rut.
