Yeah I hear ya HighCountry_BruteForce.............I scanned through the threads really fast yesterday and it seems all I read was about all the stuck deer that could not be found.........made me sick to the stomache......but was an eye opener for me (again) before my season starts this monday, to make sure of my shots and " Never give up" !!

Hey boss, I shoot a High Country also, been shooting it for quite a few years and like it, someday I will upgrade, nice bows indeed!!

deer hunter 21 I will not tear you up on this one, your mistakes have been noted, you have admited them, simply learn from them. Bad shots happen to all of us, the biggest mistake you made as others have said is trailing him so quickly after what you have admited was a badly placed shot.

The big difference between you and some folks who have some real heart burn over this is you admited you made a bad shot, others insist that because a lucky shot worked once, it will work again.

You didn' t hit where you think you did ! A qtr away animal hit behind the shoulder and hitting the opposite shoulder is an almost garanteed quick kill.....that I doubt the deer would make it much over 100 yrds.
I
CBM I agree. And even if it was 1 lung and the liver...you would find it.

However, if you hit where you say you did, that deer is dead...you just gotta find it.

Read the " what to do after the shot" thread...hopefully that will help.

Wow deer hunter 21 you are having a pretty bad year so far huh??

Muzzleloader problems........now a lost deer that you pushed all over the woods after making a bad shot.

The common denominator in the threads of yours that I have read is asking for help once it' s already too late.

You need to learn this stuff BEFORE you go out and start shooting or hunting.

I don' t know if you play golf but a very popular saying is " You learn on the range.....you play on the course" During a round of golf is NOT the time to try and learn new tricks or tinker with your swing..............just like the woods is no place decide to START learning what shots to take or what to do after the shot. You should know these things like the back of your hand because if you don' t....you will end up in your current mess time and time again.

Read....ask questions.......read some more....ask more questions.....practice, practice, practice and then when the time comes you will not be in the woods wishing you knew what to do. Knowing what to do and what not to do doesn' t even gaurentee you will find every deer you shoot.............but NOT knowing what to do will end in failure most of the time because the RIGHT thing to do usually goes against your instinct and urges at that moment. We all want to " GO GET OUR DEER" ........and sometimes you can.........but sometimes you just need to back off for awhile.

I am a details kind of guy and I can honestly say that a lot of what I learned (most of it here) helped me find my buck last year. I put a perfect shot on him but didn' t get a passthrough.......he ran about 80 yards and I lost sight of him. I climbed down a few minutes later after listening for any thrashing or crashing which I didn' t hear......and took my brother to McDonalds for lunch. Toughest meal I ever ate!!! My mind was telling me to get back there and go get him man!!! We waited for an hour and drove back because it started raining.....picked up the trail with nice pink bubbly blood and found the arrow 30 yards away with good blood on it. Blood trail was marginal at best so I started marking the drops with toilet paper on twigs so I could predict his path. Blood ran out pretty quickly. Started doing small circles with my brother but found nothing. Called 2 buddies and they showed up to help. Found another drop about 10 feet in a new direction and then another drop about 15 yards later......one of my buddies walked up to a ridge and he was just on the other side. He was dead inside 10 seconds of the shot but I still waited because no passthrough so I knew the trail was gonna be tough. I wasn' t POSITIVE about the shot so I waited. It turns out that I could have run after him screaming like a weirdo and he would still not have gone any farther because the shot was perfect but I had no way of knowing that for sure. There is a gorge where I hunt and if a deer is pushed he is a gonna head for the gorge for sure. That means a sure lost animal.

Learning as you go can be full of heartache.......and lost deer.

i had the same thing happen to me and the arrow stayed in the deer i think this is a reason they go so far.... most of pass truh the deer will down in a short time!!!!! some people will arugu with this..... but if the arrow stays in wait 1 1/2- 2 hours before going after them..... this way they will lay down with the arrow in him but until he bleeds until they get weak.... next time wait a little longer.... sorry about the deer.. it happen to everyone...... alot this guys that tell you brag about posting abouting hitting a deer and not finding it.... these guys will give you a reason a mile long why they cant find there deer..... try your best!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well this is the first deer i have lost and i have shot several deer with my bow well i know its too late but i have decided not to look for my deer so quick from now on if i don' t see it go down i will wait a couple of hours before looking for him but some of you guys that get so mad about this topic cannot say you have not lost a deer or if you haven' t you' ve not shot very many because it will happen to everyone that hunts i hope it never happens too any of you guys but as far as my tracking ability i found all of my deer that i have shot except for this one and i had some buddies helping me on this one and they are real experienced hunters and we still had no luck and we looked everwhere we thought the deer would be and then some.this really has been the worst week of my hunting carrer cause when i couldn' t find my deer it mad me sick and i felt really bad for the deer that ran off and just died somewhere thats no way to treat any animal but it did happen and there is nothing i can do about it but i can do something about it on my next deer. I really do appreciate all the help you guys gave me in the past and the help i will be getting help from you guys in the future and even atlas man he is brutaly honest and some people don' t like that and i didn' t like it in the muzzle loading forum but i' ve learned it will only make us a better hunter.thanks a lot.

When I was in sports many years ago, the saying went something like " if you don' t practice with guys that are better than you, you will never improve" The same can be said of hunting, if you surround yourself with people who are more knowledgable and experienced you will learn more.........' nough said.

If you hunt long enough into the years, at some point in your life you will lose a deer without finding it, that' s a fact. I' ve lost a couple in my hunting years, not proud of it at all, mostly due to inexperience and not knowing the lay of the land well enough. But I' ll also say that I' ve followed some friggen' tough a$$ blood trails to finally find my deer, and being super proud to boot of that. You just can never tell sometimes........I put a double lung at a very sharp angle on a doe last year, saw her go down within 75 yards of me. I followed her blood-trail just for learning purposes, and you know what her blood trail sucked, after I investigated the entry and exit holes on her I found that a wad of body fat had clogged the bottom exit hole and hardly no blood was being let out, that really opened my eyes to interpreting blood trails.

Good luck and I hope it doesn' t happen to you again.

Atlas...Take it easy on the guy. It could be you next time. Remember...you are the guy that' s hunting with the noisy bow that we all tried to help you out with. Can you say string jumper?

Next time you get done hunting walk around a little and use your nose. He should be smelling by that time and maybe you can learn
something from whats left of the carcass. Just a thought.

What does my bow noise have anything to do with knowing when to sit back and give a deer some time to die??

If I have said somewhere that I will never make a less then perfect shot or possibly not recover a deer then please point it out to me.

What I did say was learn BEFORE you shoot at game and once an animal is wounded and chased it is a little late to be asking what you should have done. If this is wrong you will have to explain to me why that is.

BTW my Magnus Stingers are shooting like darts at 270 fps and I don' t shoot past 20 yards(60 feet) so you are gonna have to be pretty quick to duck my arrow ;)

I am not piling on the guy..........I just think sugar coated comments and pats on the back are a waste of time when a good kick in the pants is what someone needs. The day I need it I hope someone gives it to me.

What good is it gonna do to sooth his little crushed ego and spirits?? He messed up........no need to pretend he didn' t.............he seems to have learned much from this experience as he as stated he will wait from now on.

When you' re wrong........you' re wrong. Be a man and listen to what people tell you and learn from your mistakes or be a baby and cry about people being mean to you........and then make the same mistakes over and over.

I appreciate the help you and others have offered to help quiet my bow.........and I fully invite you or any others here to be straight up with me and tell me I have done something wrong if you read it in my posts. I am here to learn.......and my feelings couldn' t possibly be hurt by a person I have never met typing away at a computer somewhere out there..........I am a little tougher then that.
