Default How would you hunt new area?

I hunted this small area once last year during shotgun season and now have been invited back to hunt it during bow. Saturday will be my first time this year hunting this area. The area is made up of heavy timber and brush/thickets, and at the other end it opens up a little into some wet, but not swampy land...then opens up to a few dirt roads and fields and then eventually small houses. I' ll be hunting from 2PM until dark and I am thinking, right now, to position my stand 20 yards out from the thickets and woods where I will have greater visibility and more shooting lanes. What do you guys think? Good spot for the first time and then reorganize or rethink for the following week? I cannot get out there to scout this week, but I recall the lay of the land from last year and know there are some good ' shoots' where the deer come out and have witnessed those deer last year during shotgun season.

1. Get an aeral photo off of terraserver and get a birdseye view.
2. I would set some observation stands and work my way into the prime spots by veiwing what the deer are doing.
3. Be smart...don' t jump into something that could be the deer' s bedroom until you know more about the property.
