My son bought a new bow one day in to the season. He hadn' t planned on hunting with that bow but before the next Saturday he was shooting better with his new bow than he was shooting with his old bow .If some one had said something to him while he was buying it I’m sure I would have told them to go take a flying leap and wrote them off as some uppity self righteous A hole.

I hope nobody thinks I was " Bashing" my neighbor for his shooting skills?
I was honestly trying to figure out how to approach the situation if I see him again........I kind of don' t want to stand next to him at 20 yards and smoke a 6 arrow 2" group and make him feel bad. That and I don' t have the heart to tell him my arrows will go through his target like wet toilet paper.[]
I haven' t seen him shooting since.......maybe I' ll go knock and say hi and just give him an open invite if he sees me shooting to come on over and airrate my lawn a bit. Kidding!!

Not even sure he' s a hunter? I' ve been in my new house 2 seasons now and not once have I seen him coming back from hunting or even wearing camo?

Let' s all turn back the clock a little - I remember when I bought my first bow. Granted I was 13 and didn' t have a clue, let alone a place to shoot at a deer with it, but I would have jumped out of my shoes at a chance for someone (neighbor, relative, anyone) to invite me over and give me some pointers.
I know the frustration of seeing the " last minute" folks running around. However Dale' s quote above is fitting also.

I remember buying my first bow 15 years ago...I was a sophomore in high school and saved up some money to buy a bow out of the classifieds. My Dad is a great man, but he didn' t hunt....nor did any of my friends. I had no idea what I was buying....suppose to look for, or even the faintest idea how to shoot for that matter.

I spent quite some time just figuring out the basics and flung em' all over the place! If someone would have watched me like Matt did his neighbor...they would have called the Conservation Officer on the spot! Finally, years later I started making sense of things...I am extremely proud to be self-taught, but I sure did take some big lumps along the way!

On the flip side....I participated in a special state park hunt a few years back. About 50 of us hunting a pretty big island from designated stands. Boat only went across every 4 hours. I tagged out pretty early in the day and sat and talked to the Conservation Officers that were running the hunt while I was waiting for a boat to take me across. This was the 4th or 5th day of the hunt and they were telling me some of the stuff they had seen thus far. One of them ' found' an arrow, stuck in a tree about 8 feet off the ground...still had the Wal-Mart barcode sticker on it!

My point is...we are talking about two different groups here. Some that want to learn, but lack any guidance. Others that are simply lazy and don' t really care too much.

I agree with quite a few of you....I get frustrated also. You see the one' s every year....buying bows the week before, broadheads the night before and Tink' s 69 to use the first of October!
