I' ve got a sweet spot to bowhunt this year but it is a long hike. Lugged a 22lb. Tom out this spring and it about did me in! I know I' ve got to stick one before I worry about the long drag, and I plan on calling some buddies to help if it happens. Just curious to hear some fun dragging stories to help sike me up!!

Last year when hunting public land I had to drag my doe about 1 1/2 to 2 miles.
That was enough for me and I went and brought a deer trolly
If you have a long drag the I would suggest a visit to Basspro and get a trolly[8D]

My buddy bagged both a doe and the buck that was chasing her about 800 metres off a road last year. We went in around 4:30 and it got dark really quick. There was a small swamp, and then tons and tons of 1 or 2 inch poplar saplings to pull them through.

It was so gnarly that I literally fell three times and never hit the ground because of those trees. Once we got out of that it tough finding our way around the small marsh (in the dark no less).

I shot two deer last year. The first only 25 yards off a trail and the second about 50 yards from the trucks. You got it. My buddy still takes a beating for his! The old boys in our group started talking about taking his gun away when he dogs.

I don' t know how far but I have had a few 3 hr drags - and at times actually colapsed to the ground.

Last years drags where brutal - both over 2 hrs - one in 80 deg / 90% humididty

But then again I am a smoker[&:] - you guys could of lugged em out in 15 min.

Lets not forget to add in the hills and logs and other obstuctions. I know in my area if you shot a deer on flat ground you must have bulldozed it. Lets see last year i helped in a 1 hr drag, that was fun. the year before that we drug one a little ways, but, i havent had to do much dragging there is a lot of time you can pull the truck right up to them.

Last year I shot a doe that ran REALLY far from my truck or any other access road for that matter. I had a choice to drag her the shorter distance(450-500 yds) but half up hill and thru thick stuff you had to crawl through....or drag her thru the " field" and gas line that was only slightly graded, but about a 800 yd drag. I chose the long way. It was the worst drag of my life. I am in good shape and strong and I was exhausted.

I remember dragging my 1st buck, when I was 14, without help, up out of this steep hollow/thicket, that was nothing but uneven rocks. Didn' t even flinch at the notion....what an amazing thing adreniline is. I wouldn' t hunt there now, if you paid me, for fear of dragging one out of there.

Last year, farthest drag was 50 yards. I hunt on a parcel only about 10 acres, the other place is about 700 acres but i got luck and he was kinda by an old feed road that run through the field, so we could drive to it. The farthest ever was my first deer, but it was only about 400 yards and it was a wheat field, so not as bad as alot of peoples.

I try to get an atv in there if at all possible. I only had to drag a couple of 200+ lbs bucks to realize anything over about 100yds is torture

My worst was my biggest buck.....210 lbs ! I had to drag him about 500 yrds through some fairly thick stuff and up and down some small hills.

Realized adrenaline only gets you about 50 yrds on a big deer.......after the first couple of times I passed out I decided to only drag about 3-5 yrds at a time........the hernia hasn' t caused me too many problems but my wife has been laughing at my belly button ever since........ had a kid afterwards, so I worried for nothing...........one good thing = the breathing techniques I learned actually helped while my wife was in labor.....new year' s resolution =to start working out, lost 20 lbs that day allowing me to squash that stupid idea .....and finally & most importantly I learned that even at 30....your definately not 20 anymore !!

I' d say the furthest drag for me during any season has been about 1 mile to the nearest road. I find it easier to field dress, haul my gear out, then return for the drag. I also find it easier to use my friend' s handtruck when he hunts with me!
