What calls do deer seem to respond to in the early season?

I personally do not use calls until later in the year?

I've been seeing bucks fighting for two weeks now. Sullivan County, PA. I even have pics posted in the whitetail forum. I usually don't start calling until mid-October, but I may do a few soft grunts and maybe some antler tickling if nothing is moving on Saturday. Nothing aggressive, but they're certainly used to fighting already where we hunt.

I try it in late October early November light at first not aggressive with some soft grunts rattling and doe bleets. The full rut you can get a little more aggressive with different ellements as you see them crank it up full bore.
