The tree the terrain the suns posittion the wind the distance I need to walk to get there the pressure in the area and the time of year I plan to hunt it all come into play when I determine how high to get. I have stands I plan to gun hunt from in November and ones I bow hunt from now with my climber and fixed ones. So I think it all depends on moment by moment factors how high to go in my humble opinion. I have been busted at 20 feet and not busted at 12 feet so who knows what will work in any given hunt.
