The WI online Hunter Safety courses work like this: Your wife would go through a series of lessons online and take quizes to verify she knows the material. Then, you'll need to find a field day nearby where she'll take the written quiz and the field quiz in person. My guess is you're having trouble locating a field day, correct? I just looked on the DNR website and no field days popped up. Hunter Safety classes are few and far between this time of year with hunting season coming to an end. There are a few classroom classes in the upcoming months, but they're not always conveniently located or scheduled.

My girlfriend took the online course and then we traveled about 2.5 hours to a sportsmen's club in Madison for the field day. The online classes are long and boring, but it's basic common sense stuff. Her field day was a joke. It was some 70 year old men putting 12 year-olds to sleep talking about things unrelated to hunting. There was a written exam and they had to show firearm proficiency. I scored all the written exams since I was there for the day and they were shorthanded.
You would have wanted to look this up around July because you will be hard-pressed to find classes so late in the year. Depending on where you are you can contact the DNR and see if someone locally could adminster the test for you.

I got my instructor's certification through a college course a few years ago, and if I remember right, there's a minimum number of students needed to actually have the class, I think it's 7 or 8. It might be worth it to talk to your friends in the area and see if anyone else is looking to take the course, maybe your wife has some friends/coworkers that would be interested in a smaller class size. Like delta66 said the DNR might know someone in your area that can administer the course. Good luck.
