RE: who bow hunts from the ground?
I do most of my hunting from the ground. I have done well with whitetail, elk, javelina, and turkey. I prefer to sit in a blind over putting my back against a tree. I think you can get away with a little more movement in a blind.

Oh yeah! The only way to go! I do 95% of my hunting from the ground. As was stated before, I use overgrown fencerows, blowdowns, thickets, or cedar trees for cover. I really like the cedars if I can find one big enough and in the right spot. I try to find one with the limbs about 3 1/2 feet off the ground and a trunk about 2 feet in diameter. Then I slide up underneath it with my 5 gal. bucket to sit on, break out my pruning shears and trim a couple of branches off for a shooting lane, and break up the pieces to allow the cedar scent to release. Great cover for the deer' s eyes and nose!

I always hunt from the ground. I set up behind a tree and use it to help conceal me drawing the bow back. I also screw in a hanger to hold my bow at the right height to minimize movement and I sit on a little tripod camo stool when needed. Works for me. As for success, I usually get at least one deer each season. Nothing to hang on the wall yet but I keep the grill busy.

I have managed to take 4 deer with a bow from the ground (3 bucks), and will give it a whirl in one of my pet spots again this year........I' m going to use a nice little natural groundblind I brushed together for the PA opener.

One of the most exciting hunts I ever had was while hunting on the ground...and I didn' t even have a bow in my hands.
I took a young guy out last year hoping to help call in his first buck. I used the horns and a grunt call.
Just before dark, I picked up the horns and rattled one in...and it practically charged him. It stopped at 15 yards and he nailed it.
While we were high-5ing each other, a second one came running in....a real shooter too.
Neither of us will forget that evening.

I ground hunt about 98% of the time, mostly still hunting or spot & stalk. Too impatient to set in a tree and like to eventually see the other side of the hill or whatever. Fairly successful with over 50 species, but who' s counting.
